Hey Guys I was taking the viper out today and used the AC. It is cool but not cold. Everything seems to be working correctly but the temp should be a colder. What could cause this?

Thanks

Open the hood and observe the 'sight glass' with the engine running and the A/C on. Visible bubbles would suggest a low charge indiating a small leak.

The next step would be to hook up pressure gauges to confirm that you have a low charge. Instead of topping up the charge to the correct pressures, it would be better to evacuate the system and place it under vacuum for 30 minutes...this is to only way to evacuate any trapped air and moisture(these interfer with efficient performance and promote corrosion) Ideally, the air temp of the dash outlet ducts should be 40 deg or less at medium fan speed

When this happened to me I went to Pep Boys and purchased a $26 AC recharge kit. 10 mins later the problem was solved. I can freeze meat now in my Viper it's REALLY cold. :D

If the system is cool but not as cold a usual then it is low on charge. It is considered NORMAL for a system to need a charge every 4-5 yrs. The manufactures have yet to design a front compressor seal that wil not leak some freon. Your car uses R134A so looking at the sight glass bubbles, if it has one, is not the way to fill the system. R134a isn't filled as much and the oil for R134 looks like R12 bubbles as the oil moves with the freon to lube the compressor. Best to use gauges. You can top off with a parts store can but make sure to purge the hose so you aren't injecting some air. If the system has pressure, which it does if cool, then no reason at all to evacuate it. You only evacuate if the system has been opened. Air and moisture can't enter under pressure.:) :2tu:

I find this thread helpful, but have a slightly different problem. Recently I noticed that my A/C fan is not working to its max potential. I can set it on high and recirculate and it feels similar to low setting. Any ideas?

Look'n at the wiring diagram you have a motor thats about to give up or possible blower resistor that is bad. System has power direct to the motor then the ground side is resistance for speeds. Run a ground direct to motor ground and if speed increases resistor is bad if no increase then motor is dragging. Motor is changed under hood and don't have to remove the heater box. The resistor is in the side of the box for cooling.:2tu:

Ok, so I checked the sight glass today and with the AC off it is clear but as soon as I turn the AC on it turns a cloudy white. Almost like milk. I put one of the cheap ac recharge bottles on and it said there is a lot of pressure in the system. Do I have air in the system and what should I do next?
