It's not that they stink that bad, they become a problem if they are used aggressively on the track. Off the track, they stop better than any other car. As far as the ABS goes, I would prefer to have an on/off button like on a F355. There are a few people retrofitting older Vipers with ABS, so keep on the board to see.

Retrofitted ABS at this time is almost cost-prohibitive. When Dodge added ABS in 2001, quite a few people asked (at VOI-6 tech sessions) about retrofitting earlier cars. The Team Viper guys said that there were an awful lot of components that were different in the ABS cars. If ABS is a major factor in your decision as to what car to buy -- and it sounds like it is -- you need to stick with 2001 and later Vipers. If you were to buy an earlier car and retrofit it with ABS, you would spend as much money as buying a 2001 with ABS.

On the other hand, if you're thinking of racing the car, then adding an aftermarket ABS designed for the rigors of track use is a better choice. The stock ABS has been known to exhibit some momentary lapses (resulting in agricultural exploration forays) when used repeatedly on-track.
