John was runnin' good, he absolutely grenaded his front passanger side wheel bearing. I saw the car afterward everything in the wheelwell was destroyed, hub, rotor, caliper not to mention it caught fire. When I last saw him Sat. he thought it might be fixable, I guess not.

John certainly did have car problems! As you stiffen the suspension, use stickier tires, and drive harder, you will bring about problems with wheel hubs.

The stock part uses ball bearings and is not something you can service or inspect. I lost a hub at Mid-Ohio last year and was very lucky to have been at a spot on the track where I had some room.

We worked with a hub manufacturer to come up with a design similar to what is used in NASCAR. We are now using a front hub that is fully serviceable with two sets of roller bearings and we have not had a failure. The hub is a direct bolt-on replacement for a non-ABS Viper front hub. We are still working on a modification to include the targets for ABS as well as come up with a rear hub design.

John Grieco lost his hub during practice on Saturday, and it took him some time to find a replacement for his front brake caliper. He missed qualifying and the race. He was ready to qualify on Sunday, but his car got stuck on a lift! He had to start at the back of the field (six cars) and with Skip Cummings on my bumper I wasn't going to wait around for him! I'm sure John would have been a huge factor in the race if he had had the time necessary to get his car set up properly. He's a great competitor.

Incidentally, another great competitor, Ritch Marziale (Muzzy) lost a front hub during the race Sunday which put him out of the contest.

The replacement hubs don't make you go faster, but they're safer and more reliable. They are available exclusively from our ViperDays supplier - John Archer at Archer Racing.
