Are they going to allow SRT's to run in Viper Days? Seperate class or stock class? Would love to go it was so much fun in the old RT.

Yes we will allow the new SRT but you will need to install a roll bar to in order to run.John Archer at archer racing in Duleth MN is working on a bar for the new car check them out at www.archerracing.com .The stock hoops are not enough.

Nothing there. The older RT-10's also stated that the sport cap was Not a rollbar. The semi-soft top on the SRT seems more sturdy than the old hardtop(toupee).

I have e-mailed Skip for an official answer. I believe Viper Days, considering that it is instructional, would allow for stock SRT-10's to be enjoyed..... but VRL ... now that's another story!

Stay tuned!

Joe,

I believe that Viper Days will be requiring either a top or a rollbar for the SRT-10s. This is somewhat academic, as Autoform is working on a top and
rollbar, as well as Archer Racing Accessories ( rollbar only). Most clubs, even for instructional use , are requiring convertibles to have hardtops or rollbars
for Insurance purposes. Autoform is very close to having a top done, and this will alleviate the concern, plus give those in colder/wetter climes a few
more months to enjoy their Snakes.

I spoke with Jerry from Autoform late last week. He said the SRT hard top is about a month away from completion. He also said that Autoform is working on some other goodies for the SRT including a front splitter and wing.

Guess that covers it. LOL I really hope that the companies working on the rollbars for these cars figure out how to do as little modification to the car as possible. Sounds like Autoform and Archer would love to see pics if they exist even partially done.

Tom,

Do you feel that a "replacement" roll hoop will be acceptable, or will more mounting points be necessary?

The ViperDays rules and points matrix clearly state RT/10's have to run with either a) a hard top or b) a roll bar. If you ran without, it was because someone didn't catch it. SRT/10s have to have a roll bar.

I do not belive the stock mounting locations of the "sport hoops" or whatever you call them, provide enough structural support to attach a true roll bar and therefore, any aftermarket fitment will be using different mounting points.

You know I brought this issue up with the Illinois VCA, and they have put in a provision that would allow for a SRT/10 to participate WITHOUT a rollbar or hard-top.

I guess I should clear something up. The Illinois VCA will allow SRT/10's to participate WITHOUT tops or rollbars. Viper Days will not, at least according to the rules they have. Sorry for any confusion.

Let me clear up the IL VCA requirements. All our road course events are run at Gingerman Raceway, South Haven Mi. After 8 years experience at this track we have a pretty good idea about lap times. In order to encourage new SRT-10 owners to participate in our events we have come up with the following requirements. Lap times under 1:40 seconds will require a 5 or 6 point harness. Lap times under 1:37 seconds will require a roll bar. If you dip below the lap time limits you will be black flagged, brought into the pit and politely told to slow down for your own safety. If you continue to push through the limits you will be parking your car for the rest of day with no refund. SRT's will run with their tops up unless they have arm restraints. We have found 95% of the rookies attending our events will run in the low to high 1:40's which we feel falls into the fast touring category. Under 1:40 seconds you are developing some serious speed. We feel SRT's will be 2-3 seconds a lap faster. If anyone is interested in attending any of our events and has a question about SRT requirements please give me a call. A well supervised day at the track is in most cases going to be safer than the drive to the facility. However, as with most things in life, strange things can sometimes occur. Your well focused and instructed driving might be flawless, but some small part may fail and send you on a different journey. This can happen on the street or at the track, but because of the higher average speeds experienced at one of these events, you should take propper precautions to make yourself safe. If something happens, you won't have the opportunity to say, "gee I guess I should have had a good roll bar installed".

It is very exciting to drive your street car on the track, and I highly recommend it, but you need to prepare yourself and your car for the experience. Safety should be the most important consideration. Only then can you be confident enough to drive your best.

People that enjoy tracking their car and get more serious about it ultimately end up with a non-streetable dedicated racecar. Whatever performance enhancements are made are usually more than equaled by safety improvements. It just makes good sense.

SRT-10's will not be able to run in the Michelin Challenge Series or Viper Days Driving School without a roll bar or hard top. The reason is simple. SAFETY! This new Viper is awesome, fast and responsive but if a driver gets in trouble and rolls... the protection is not adequate. Autoform has a rollbar available that will protect a driver in the event of a roll over.
We are sorry that we must institute these safety requirements but they are only imposed to protect you!!
