This is why they make road courses and 1/4 mile tracks!!
Street racing is just dumb....and more than likely, when something happens, its usually the innocent "other" driver/passengers that are the victims. THIS IS WHY INSURANCE COMPANIES DON'T LIKE CARS LIKE THE VIPER....its the few STUPID drivers who make it bad for all the rest of us who just want to enjoy owning this great (and fast) car. We see accidents up my way all the time, many are just accidents and couldn't be avoided. I've been on the PCH a number of times and it doesn't strike me as a place anyone would want to race, let alone go very fast....no place to go if you make a mistake. Wait....I mean anyone with half a brain!!!!
Hopefully, the mother's legs will fully heal and the kids aren't too traumatized and the driver of the roasted Viper is okay....MAJOR STUPID, but okay.

If viper owner in the accident is a club member, then he should get banned. Dont settle for this kind of immaturity.

Being banned from the VCA is the least of his worries right now. I don't see how a performance car club could ban someone for racing though? The VCA doesn't encourage it, but to actually ban him? Seems like overkill. Its not the VCA's job to play judge, jury, executioner in real world situations.

It seems as though the guy driving the Viper wasn't arrested or named. Could indicate that maybe somebody's kid swiped the keys. I can't understand the other guy taking off. It's not going to be tough to track down a Viper. I suspect this was a couple of youngsters. Perhaps a kid with ties to law enforcement.

Very sad ending to this, a few of us spent many hours trying to bring Captain to safety for the family. It was heartbreaking, he had been in the field waiting by the crash site, he was hit by a car on PCH while we were there. The driver of that car did not even stop. Where is the consciousness of people?? The ripple effect from this terrible accident continues - it was a very sad night for this beautiful boy and his already traumatized family.

Without commenting on the rest of this story, Im curiosy to know
how you came to this conclusion? Other than drunks, I find that
soccer moms tend to be the most distracted people on the road.
I routinely avoid moms paying more attention to their kids in the
back seat than on staying in their own lane.

Good point actually ! My wife and I were nearly head on'd by a women in a honda minivan just outside of our neighborhood about 3 weeks ago. She crossed completely into our lane and I was on the horn for several seconds before she even looked up. The mother hens can be a dangerous lot on our roads.

Well, Bonkers, been a long time....no talk....
The Viper was racing another Viper, so they need extra space to do that. In all probability, this Viper went out of it's lane. That makes the likelihood of the soccer mom going out of her lane less probable. All things are possible, but that is the more probable scenario.
Maybe the mom with the broken legs could settle the issue for us.

It certainly sounds like the Viper driver was at fault here but they didn't release his name or arrest him. We only have the accounts in the article to base our opinions on. Most multi-car accidents are avoided if at least one person is paying attention.
