Recently purchased a Ford GT after playing with old muscle cars most of my life. Really enjoying the new muscle car feel and thinking about adding a Viper to the mix. Seems like the Gen 4 is a good fit and wondering if the 08's due to being the first year of production are problematic and should shop for a 09-10 or are they all the same?

I have 2008, an absolutely amazing SNAKE !! the best muscle car I have ever driven zero probs with engine, diff or trans

I heard there is little different between 08 April production and so on, and also between 09, but something not noticeable I believe

but as mentioned above, 2010 has better 5th gear, otherwise no problem with 2008

good luck

If you can, get a 2010, it has better gearing making 5th gear usable.

2010s also command a premium price, or at least it seems to be that way when looking at '08-'10 cars. If you want the 2010 5th gear ratio, the TR-6060 5th/6th gear can be altered, even independently if you only want to change 5th while maintaining the long 6th. Parts and labor I was quoted came in around $800...$550 for the parts, $250 for the labor (just tearing down the transmission, not actually taking it out or putting it back in the car).

Just something to think about...the 2009/2010 cars had some rolling minor changes, but nothing major when compared to the '08s.

Racer22, saw your post on the fordgt forum.....did you see how many Gt owners have or had vipers.......I agree with you as they compliment each other. Both great cars except you can buy two vipers for the price of one gt....good luck.

Awesome pick with the GT. One of the very view cars you'll own for a few years and turn a profit on.

Good luck with the Viper purchase. Two great American cars.

I wish Ford would jump on a high and car again. Another iteration of the GT would be fantastic. Sort of "boring" it is Dodge and Chevy battling out the American supercars with the Viper and ZR1. We need some more high end American muscle.

GT or MP4-12C

Back to the OP, grab a Gen IV, you will love it! Swing an ACR if you can find one, they are off the hook! Nothing problematic that I am aware of.

It did, in 2008-09. I had my choice of colors in the $120-130K range, but assumed pricing would go down a bit further. Doh! The economy will tank again, be ready to purchase. :)

I don't see the prices tanking again.... only going up....

Like I said, the economy will tank again. This record setting stock market is just a fascade.... When it tanked in 2008, FGT's dropped about $30-40K in value.

The frame was structurally strengthened in 09, at least on the ACR. The 09 ACR has the Ring record also, fwiw. Many unique color schemes on ACR. Go for the ACR!

Isn't the throttle response somehow improved on 09 and 10?

The throttle response improved in 09 that can be fixed in 08 with the Mopar PCM.

The frame change was just to meet new crash standards and was just a slight revision in the fuel tank area, it wasn't anything major and it added about three pounds to the weight of the frame.

The record for the ring was set with a black and silver 2010 ACR.

As mentioned the 2010 had a change to the transmission and a shorter shift knob, as did all 2010 Vipers. The rear wing changed on the 2010 also.

There were 635 ACRs made between 2008-2010. Much fewer than the GT. Like Boxer said, go for the ACR. Any year is awesome!

Think about a convertible, the difference from driving my GT coupe and having a 700 HP Viper convertible to switch to makes the difference really enjoyable.

Hmmm, the same 1400 dollar PCM that also renders the car not street legal?:2tu:

As a side note, Gen 4= 879 roadsters vs. 1713 coupes (including ACR). 2009-2010= 167 roadsters vs. 279 ACR.

I was actually surprised seeing this...:D

The $1050 PCM. That also ups the rev limit, hp, gets rid of the skip shift for people who cant drive and ignores the down stream 02 sensors. Yes, that would be the one.

Oh wow, who sells it for 1050? VPA lists it for 1279 and Roe for 1099. I take it you must have one... I am sure having O2 sensors out of the system makes emission testing a breeze, LMAO:rolleyes:

My mistake, VPA sells it for $1075, not $1050.

You have emissions testing? That's too bad.
:drive:

Either way, my point being to the OP, if you find a deal on a 2008, don't cross it off your list simply because of the difference in the frame or DBW or whatever. The changes are negligible and the DBW can be "fixed" for around $1,000. Who knows, a 2008 ACR may end up being 10-20k cheaper than a 2010.

Hmmm, I hope you drive better than you can count... Must be that real driver math on your part...

BTW, if the OP has emission issue, 08 would work better for him since simple bypass resistor works on 08 instead of paying for Mopar PCM. Details ****...

I drove a very nice Venom Red coupe last night and enjoyed the experience. I think it would make an awesome mate for the Ford GT. My only concern is a delay in throttle response when I blipped the throttle from idle. Can anyone explain?
