I am wondering this for no particular reason. I guess it probably has been discussed before but it's hard to search for Gen I because of the word length.

Take a Gen one with Roe 8-10 psi S/C, 1.7 rollers, full belanger exhaust and race a stock Gen two. Who wins at the strip and road track?

I have a Gen 1 Roe 10#, rockers/heads/cam. I put down about 200 more rwhp than a stock gen 2, so at the drag strip it shouldn't even be close. Gen 2 has better suspension though.

Gen 1 all the way with PS - 2's. You would be surprised at the huge improvement that the PS-2's can make on the Gen 1 or any sports car. Gen 2's are way over rated.

Over rated? but more popular and better looking. Not to mention a lot of improvements from DC.

GTS is the winner. Faster, striffer for better handling, 18" wheels, Best looking car ever built.

Gen 1 needs $1,000 headgaskets as the paper ones don't cut it.

But the ROE SUPERCHARGER adds 50% more hp at 8.5psi boost. Gen 1 stock 400hp while Gen 2 makes 450hp stock. Roe with even a 6psi on a Gen 1 with exhaust should make 550rwhp/over 640 crank hp and kick the 08s ass.

The Roe also causes massive increases of torque, not just hp.

I would expect that you'd find that the 'winner' on the road course is very much track dependent and which Gen2. The power adder of the ROE won't really show up until you get to 80+MPH. There is some advantage at the lower speeds, but you're probably pushing the edge of traction on street tires for either car. If you took that Gen1, with no other mods, against a stock '01/'02 GTS on a course that had less straights & sweepers, the stock '01 would have an advantage. You wouldn't be able to use the power advantage and the brakes/suspension would make the difference. If you had some open field, or sweeper turns, where you could use the power to open up, advantage turns to the ROE.

Why do you say Gen 2's are over-rated? Please explain.

Because you abandoned us and bought a GEN 2, we'll never forgive you...:D

With Roe, there is no comparison at the drag strip. Likevise if you put Roe on a GEN 2. It has nothing to do with the car. HP kills the weaker ones....

Track? It depends. Very curvy, slower track that is technically challanging, it could be a coin toss. Cone circling at mall parking lot, GEN 2 will take it. ALL that HP does no good.
Fast track, like Pocono's, Roe on GEN 1 or 2 will kill most cars without blower. (But's illegal to talk killing here...:D)

Road course...my money on the Gen II. My neighbor has a Gen I with Arrow Racing engine (cam, heads, Belanger headers, intake, tune, stoptechs) and tons of track experience, racing school, etc. ViperDays old timer. I roll with a stock drivetrain Gen II with some suspension upgrades and SRT10 brakes. I wipe his best times in the first couple of laps on any track, and by the end of the weekend, it ain't even close. He will be the first to tell you, the Gen II platform is vastly superior. ;)

Details about the brakes, please? Mainly interested in what is out back...

Ouch don't show those vids to the Elise elite out here. They think their little cars are best at everything!

OK I'll correct my previus post as I misread it.

The Roe kills all. At least with a good driver and tires. 50% more hp that the Gen 2 has isn't really fair. Pur some Viper tires on a Pickup and Roe it then it'll be kickin ass.

But I don't like the Stamped pickup steel control arms on the Gen 1s and I like to roll up the windows for noise.

You have to put the Roe onto the Gen 2. The Gen 2 Roe will make another 80hp on the Gen 2.

Dan you rock as always.
Easier way to plug in either Gen1 or Gen2 for a search is always add in an asterisk * at the end to make the search work for you.
Same way putting in DLM* or any other too short reference for the search.

How is the Gen 2 stiffer? Both are full frame vehicles.. I don't think the roof on a GTS is providing any chassis stiffness.... at least the 1996 RT has the same frame and suspension.
