Depends on where you are located...
I used to pay about $1000/yr. (Leader ins.) in NE Pa, now I'm outside of Philly and pay almost twice that (Nationwide).

Jerry:

As Jason indicates, it depends where you live, how many miles you drive, whether you use it as a daily driver, what limits of liability and deductibles you select, your driving record....a whole host of variables. Yes, I am in the claims business.

My carrier charges me $1100 per year with a clean driving record. $250/500 liability limits plus a $2,000,000 umbrella. $1,000 collision deductible and $500 comprehensive. Am 43 yoa.

Friendly suggestion: Consider your coverages in addition to premium.

After recently suffering a total loss (see Stolen Trailer..) I can honestly say that Fireman's Fund is a great insurance company. We pay $1051 per year, 250/500 liability, $500 deductible collision, $50 deductible for comprehensive. And, a special rider for FULL REPLACEMENT COST COVERAGE. Which says, if the Viper is totaled or stolen, they will by us a new one less our comprehensive deductible.

Our 2000 model year trailer is being replaced with a 2001 model indentically equipped for $50.

If you are buying a new car, first year depreciation can be a killer if you have a total loss. The additional premium for this coverage was about $60 per year and has paid for itself for about 20 years already.

Check out Firemen's Fund through your independent insurance agent.

Just to give an example of the dark side, progressive quoted me (before the assesment of a 1 point BS ticket for avoiding a red light) at $2680 per 6 months. 24 yoa, 9 points, all speeding. No accidents in 8 years.

$610/year(yes year) at Nationwide. I live in San Jose(nothing is cheap) and Nationwide has consistently had the best prices every time I compare. My last 97 Supra turbo was the same price - quite cheap. This is for 100/300 coverage w/ 500/1000 deductible(high deductible repays in a few year). Make sure you get the "uninsured motorist deductible coverage" for $3 - chances are you are going to get nailed by an uncovered idiot rather than hit something yourself(twice for myself/wife). This is for a clean record and < 8000 miles/year(33 years old). My wife had one at-fault accident a few years ago and pays more for a 96 Volvo 850R so points count!

Good for a laugh:

A guy in the office, 19 yoa with a restricted liscense applied online with progressive. They quoted him $10,588 per 6 months.

That would officially ****.
