Viper Running Hot? Heffner Does It Again With a New Solution!

A lot of Viper owners experience overheating problems--especially you guys with HIGH horsepower! Well, Jason Heffner has come up with some great solutions to this problem. My car with 843 rwhp runs cooler than it did when it was stock, thanks to Jason's ongoing efforts to solve some of the tougher problems.

I took my car out today (80 degrees) and I couldn't believe how cool the car ran after Jason made some mods to my car. The best part is the solution is fairly simple. Once again, Jason proves he engineers the best solutions for the Viper!!

Oh yeah, he came up with a way to get a few more horses from my beast! See you in Englishtown.

Actually, I don't speak for Jason and I have no idea if he is planning on selling this or not. I was simply reporting that the guy is a genius when it comes to making tons of horsepower and he leaves no detail out when it comes to engineering practical solutions for our cars.

The benefit for me is I have a car that runs flawlessly in every definition of the word. That makes me happy!

I believe he is still refining his cooling solution and at some point maybe he'll productize it. It primarily consists of some inconspicuous cutting of the facia that you would only see if you were under the car.

Gary, you give away too much information! The stock answer should always be: " I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you!"

P.S. I do not think anybody else could accomplish the "Heffner effect" without some serious windtunnel testing to properly tune the venturi to scavenge properly as each Viper is different!

Gary, Was your car running hot because of the intercooler restricting air flow or did it run hot before. Although I have not had an over heating problem stock or not I know that some have the problem with stock cars too. Good luck to everybody at Englishtown. I am looking forward to some good numbers.

edit: My question refers to cruise overheating. I know there is alot more heat to displace now under boost (hp).

It sounds an awful lot like Sean's front bumper facia cooling duct to me, which has been around for a while. It may not be identical, but it sounds very similar.

Intercooler inside the front fascia is something that I've had for quite a while. Cooling is always an issue , stock or not stock. I live in FL and drive my car daily and although my temp will creep up to where I MIGHT get nervous, I've NEVER overheated or come even close to overheating, even with a mammoth intercooler blocking airflow....... Just F.Y.I. In fact, just cutting a hole in the driver side "speaker" has helped more than any mod I've done so far because most of the cooling issues will be at stand still and you can see heat pouring out from under the hood when standing still. When moving, the car will cool itself just fine.

My car has always run hot, even when it was stock. It actually seemed to cool down some with the addition of the intercooler. My car runs cooler than it ever has with the mods Jason has made. For example, on the highway, my car previously never ran cooler than about 220-230 deg. F. (except in 6th gear, where it always ran a little cooler). Now I can sit in 4th or 5th gear and the temp remains at about 190-200 deg. F. (about 210 deg. F. with the AC on).

In stop and go traffic it runs warmer, but it is vastly improved.

Hold on a second, did someone mention cutting a hole in their hood for better cooling? Does this really make a difference? I used to run a cowl hood on my old vette, but it ran hot anyway. Any thought?

Just for grins, I removed my cowl to see if it made any difference and the results were less than impressive. There are aftermarket cowls out there that have vents in them, but I don't think it's worth it based on my results.

There are people that have cut a hole in the left "speaker grill" and have said that it has helped reduce heat in the footwell area and others have said it reduces engine temps. After my little experiment, I am somewhat skeptical.

Another option is to put additional louvres in the hood to reduce heat. I haven't tried this, but it looks pretty cool.

few days ago jason at heffners performance modified my car to make it run cooler with huge front mount intercooler. now my car runs at 170' on highway and 190' in the city. today i was stuck in traffic for two hours with out heating problem. my car used to run around 230' and fan was on all the time. my water temp is lower then stock viper with 180degree thermostat.

i have jason's full peformance package.

stage two super charger system with front mount intercooler.
1000+hp full fuel and engine management.
top end package.
stock bottem end.
