I currently own a 1993 ZR1 and am in the market to add a '98-'01 GTS. Have been reading the forums and have a question regarding rwhp. What is the stock rating of rwhp for the above years. It seems the average is around 425rwhp which doesn't make sense for a 450hp motor. My ZR1's rwhp is 332 stock and the engine is rated at 405hp. Is the Viper 425rwhp a heavily modified value or what??

Thanks in advance. Great site!

Stock rating is 450hp. Most people add smooth tubes and K&N and various types of exhaust mods.

FWIW. My 98 RT/10 dynod at 427rwhp. I have smooth tubes, K&N and rear muffler replaced with pipes.

Most of the stock Gen II Vipers dyno between 395 and 410 rwhp bone stock (non-ACR). Add smooth tubes and filters and you can generally bump that by 10 rwhp (ACR has these stock). Some cars are stronger than others out of the box. Mine was OK, having dynoed at 414 rwhp straight from the factory. I have added smooth tubes, filters, and replaced the rear muffler with straight pipes (Snake Oyl). I am now at 436 rwhp and 483 rwtq. Cheap mods and big results! I am scraping my pennies together so I can afford a Doug Levin decal for my car. It will be a couple decades before I can actually afford the supercharger itself...

I didn't dyno bone stock, but you can see my numbers and mod's in my signature. The catback was more for a sound improvement. Total mod cost including labor was $1500. Good luck with your search.

My '01 RT dyno'd at 408 RWHP / 442 RWTQ bone stock at 1150 miles, and dyno'd at 415 RWHP / 448 RWTQ with filters & tubes at 1300 miles. The Viper motor's clearly a bit underrated at 450 BHP.

K&N and smooth tubes will be your best mod for the money, then you can do the exhaust........

I finally got around to dynoing my 98. It pulled 413 RWHP/473 RWTQ bone stock. I added smooth tubes and Sean Roe filters and ran it again. It pulled 424 RWHP/475 RWTQ. Talk about your conservative factory ratings.

Just a funny note. I dyno'd my 02 Z06 back to back with the Viper. My Viper produced OVER 410 RWTQ at 2100 rpm. The max torque the Z pulled was 350 RWTQ and it was close to 4700 rpm. hahaha It was a fun day at the dyno.

Thanks for all the replies! It sounds like the Viper should give the SOTP feel I'm looking for. The ZR1 is a nice car, but it still is lacking in the acceleration category. Maybe a gear change would be in order for the Viper as well. From what I have read, this seems like a good upgrade for little investment.
