Viper tag prices

I got my renewal notioce in the mail a couple days ago and was just wondering what everyone else is paying for their Viper tags so I can see if GA is ripping me off (not thats its anything I could do about it). My tag is gonna cost me $541.50. It breaks down like this:

2006 Ad Valorem tax: $495.50
Tag fee: $20
Mail fee: $1
Special tag annual fee (prestige tag): $25

For comparison, my 98' Eclipse Spyder GS is gonna cost $119.53.

I plan on applying for a new prestige tag for the Viper, so you can prob add another $50-100 to the $541.50 total

Florida: three vehicles; 2001 Viper, 2002 Dakota w/USMC Plates, 96 Mazda. Under $200.00 total per year for all three. Gotta luv it.

Colorado is different, also. Because my '95 viper is so old (OVER 10 YEARS), it is under $30.00 for plates and personal property tax! Don't worry, Colorado gets my money other ways...Go_fer

I think PA is about 30-45 bucks for personal plates (Viper or not same price)...

Mississippi is the same for a 2000 ACR. They rip you off. over 10 yrs old it is $35 a year. Antique is a one time fee of about $35 I think.

$50 in Alabama for a personal plate, otherwise it would have cost $23.

$20/year in DE. Add (I think) $25 for a vanity plate. Tags are personal possesions here, so if you have $90,000+ buring a hole in your pocket you might be able to buy Tag #488 in black.

In Texas personalized plates are $75.00 to $100.00 per year.

I think I paid only $55 for my Field Reserve plates - I pick the number and the letters for my Viper. My truck has a vanity plate and was $85.

But Ohio has other ways of sucking to make up for it.

What about Arizona?? Probably move in the next 6 months from FL...from what I recall in the past, AZ has ad valorem based on current fair market value calculation, but don't know the specifics. Think I'll check the ADOT site...

If these are the prices that you guys pay each year then I am getting a raw deal. In SC we have to pay taxes on our cars each year. I pay almost a grand a year for the tag on the Viper.

Did a bit of research in anticipation of a move to Arizona...

Arizona: The VLT is based on an assessed value of 60% of the manufacturer's base retail price reduced by 16.25% for each year since the vehicle was first registered in Arizona (15% before 8/1/98). Then, as of the Dec 1, 2000 reduction, the rate is calculated as $2.80 (new vehicles)/$2.89 (used vehicles) for each $100 of the assessed value. For example, for a new vehicle that costs $25,000, the first year assessed value would be $15,000 and the VLT would be $420.00. The second year the assessed value would be $12,562.50 and the VLT would be $363.06.

So if I read this right. This is what I can expect when I register my 2001 Viper for the first time in AZ: Base retail price (off window sticker) $76,000.00 x .60 = $45600.00. Since the car had never been registered in AZ, I do not qualify for the annual 16.25% reduction for each subsequent year (2001-2006). So given the $45600.00 base x $2.89 (used vehicle)…I can expect about a $1317.00 VLT plus the other nickel/dime registration/emission/tag fees…totaling about $1400.00 just for the Viper. Add the 2002 Dakota and the Mazda to the line-up and I’m looking at potentially over $2K per year…plus the higher insurance costs…I think I’ll stay in Florida.

In NJ it's $43 a year for registration - but no additional 'tag fee' unless you consider the registration fee the tag fee. Unless you want a vanity plate, then it's a one time $50 fee for the 'vanity' or 'personal' plate.

Not bad considering what some of you guys are getting banged for.

Yeah but dont forget that in Cali you pay property tax on a 1 mil home that you can buy in GA for 200 grand.

oh yeah, ask him what thier house costs?!hows about the real estate tax? we have some of the lowest tax in the country, its all relative, our insuarance is 1/3 of what I paid in new england, Ill pay the personal property tax , & besides its a write off!

In Alberta Canada, the yearly registration fee is $72 and if you want vanity plates it's another $225.

My 97 GTS has always been in Az., but not always owned by me. I bought it 2 years ago this April(one of the smartest things I ever did). My last tags (Nov 05) cost me a total of $287.11. Not great, but better than some states. The state gets the money one way or the other. Gotta Love It!!
