Everyone’s familiar with the term “Viper Tax”. It’s a cute term we use to complain about how much we pay for Viper stuff. The actual truth is that “Viper Tax” is basically “price gouging” and I have no problem exposing it when given the chance.

Pictured below is a “Smooth Tube” for an SRT-10. It replaces the stock accordion tube from the intake. Most Viper places charge around $90 for one of these. I needed a new one and got this one from www.HoseTechniques.com for $14.50.

Some will try and say it’s of low quality but it’s not. It’s the same 5-ply silicone hose that Viper places sell. Look closely and you can even see the plies in the photo.

Thanks for the info, I'll add them to the marketplace.

One question though: I did not see a car specific kit for the SRT-10 (or Gen II's), did you just buy it buy the foot? or to the length you measured on your car? Is that two questions?

I needed something a bit larger in diameter for the stainless RSI piece that I bought. From the site above, I got a 5" diameter glossy red hose in 3" length. Works fine with the RSI.

There are other places that sell the same hose at equally low cost. I found many by just doing an internet search of things like:

"silicone hose"
"turbo hose"
etc.

That is a nice looking intake. Is there any benefit to that piece over the K&N or stock or is it just for looks? Since there is no air inlet for the crank case hose, do you plan to just put a breather filter on it hose as they do on the two turbo set ups?

This makes a little more sense now. You are not running a stock air intake. I was informed that the stock air intake is about a 1/2" off-set from the intake manifold which means the hoses have to be custom molded so they do not kink. Hence the reason the hoses from the Viper vendors cost so much more.... low volume custom molding is not cheap.

Still went ahead and put the link in the marketplace for the do-it-yourselfer's that want to make their own hoses for their Gen I/II snakes where straight hoses will work fine (at least they do on my Gen I).

I bought that RSI unit just for shows and/or meets and to use without the top of the clam shell in place. I believe the K&N with the full clam shell in place feels the strongest but looks the fugliest.

And yes, with the RSI unit on, the air temp hose and and blow-by hose are capped off with little K&N's that come with the RSI unit. Those little K&N's look kind of cool in their own right.
