Viper tax or Robbery you tell me....(RB1 w/ Navigation Installed)

Well I went to get my rb1 installed with Ipod Icruze sine I've had it sitting around my house for all this time!! Well to make a long story short they spent about 2 hours installing the icruze and the rb1 into the car. When it came time to the bill they told me $480 dollars plus tax!!! I didn't know if I should laugh or slap the bastard upside the head! I told him even if he charged me a rediculous $100 an hour it still wouldn't come out to more then $200! He said he can knock it down to $300. I told him I asked for a quote before he started and they just jumped right into it. Anyways to make a long story short I told him to go [******] himself and stop the install where it is. I ended up paying $160 for installing the RB1 and he left the wire from the Icruze hanging on the passenger side. I ran that along the passenger side and brought it up into the center console myself. I defenetly won't be going there again! I asked him about installing the polk speakers which were a direct replacement as well and he said $300 . Maybe he was talking about 300 in monopoly money becuase I'm defenetly not that stupid. Anyways does $160 sound fair to you guys considering I ran the line myself even though it can't really be seen its coming up the passenger side if you open up the center console u can see it running up the side. Was I ripped or did I get off easy this time? Pictures below for those interested!

This is the side sill I ran the wire up into the console so it wasn't drilled in or anything when I got close to the edge of the back of the center console I just brought the wire up and didn't leave too much hanging out:

So was it worth $160 in labor...I know it would obviously cost something for the shop to work on it and they aren't robbing me but at $480 it was defenetly feeling a lot more like a Robbery...at $300 it would have been a Viper tax and at $160 I feel its alright since it is a viper but I think it would have been done for a lot less if it was another car what do you guys think?

I would like to give a HUGE thanks to Dan (FinalGTS) He has helped me out in this whole process a lot and at the end I realized I am not confident enough to do the install myself but what he told me helped the install at the shop go a lot smoother and faster then it would have otherwise!

i HATE these guys who charge so much for so little because its a VIPER. for what
was completed i think you did ok. i have found it pretty easy to do most things
on my viper, just take your time. i also feel no one will treat your car as well
as you do. i trust my tech at the dealership and would of course let jason heffner
do whatever he wanted to it (TT)lol. most of the guys on the board here can help
alot when it comes to most things dealing with the car, take advantage of it, i
do. looks great in your car, good luck with it. i would be interested
in knowing what you think of the rb1.

at 160, you did very good. I generally charge 50/Hr, and I am at almost HALF what most other shops and dealerships here charge. An install like this one I would quote at 2-3 hours...

Ricky, I noticed your garage remote next to the IPOD, here is something easy and cheap to replace that remote. I have it on mine, it has a better range and works great F2pass

I did, and it was very easy. About 5 minuets. I put it under the black hose on the driver side by the headlight wires plug. Install instruction " The Flash2Pass™ transmitter is mounted under the hood of your car near one of the headlights. One wire from the transmitter will be attached to the headlight high beam positive wire, and the other transmitter wire will be attached to the headlight high beam negative (ground) wire. It doesn’t matter which transmitter wire is attached to which headlight wire as the transmitter is non-polarized, which means it figures that out itself. The wires are attached with quick splice connectors that do no harm to your vehicle’s wiring. No wires are cut; they’re just tapped into. This allows the transmitter to be removed when the vehicle is sold or traded in, and the transmitter can be attached under the hood with a plastic zip tie, which means the tie can be cut to remove the transmitter.
The Flash2Pass™ receiver is even easier to install. There are two wires that go from the garage door opener motor to a pushbutton on the wall that you use to open the garage door from the inside. After disconnecting the power to the garage door opener, you will remove the pushbutton from the wall, undo the two wires from the back and attach them to the Flash2Pass™ receiver, and attach the receiver to the wall. Turn the power back on. That’s it!
