Thanks to the few above that understand my point, and Jared I'm glad you made the statement on the F-body cars.

I do enjoy the many good things about the SRT, I just want the car to run with the pack, not behind it, even though they are thought of as Mullett's, as the reply from AG98RT10 refers to them as, (what a corny statement to make about a bunch of young harmless kids taking there car to the drag strip and using what little money they have on there car insted of dope or hanging in the beer joint on Fri. and Sat. night, and they all think the Viper is the coolest car they have ever seen.

I'm finished with this post.

Skip, my luck has been pretty good so far. Gear change from stock to 3.55's really woke my Viper up. I really killed a very modded Z-06 a few weeks ago and so far everything I've "played" with, including a few SVT Mustangs, modded F-bodies and Corvettes. Maybe mine just runs really good, but I doubt it. I'm going to try and get it dynoed this week so I'll know the hp / torque numbers.

Running from a slight roll makes a big difference and so does the driver, as someone above has said. Pick your challengers and challenges well. From a dead stop, we may have a small traction issue but it gets much more controllable with gears. This car is really not set up to be a drag car, in my opinion, and as the Snakester said, mod for mod, stock vs stock,we will always win. This car / engine combination has by far the greatest potential for mods and power of anything going in it's price range, plus all the other benefits of being relatively rare and great looking and great on the road too.

On the clutch issue, I haven't noticed any real slippage yet, but it does feel a bit spongy / soft. Gears seemed to help this too. Skip, please let us know what you enventually do with the clutch, as I will probably upgrade to the lighter flywheel and a stronger clutch in the near future.

I always thought that a gear like 355 will hurt traction not help it. (unless with slicks)


I plan on using btr's nos/ propane setup. 200 hp hit. Any one wish to comment?

I still do not understand why you do not trust in your Viper ( the 8th one). SRT-10's are equal in weight to the Z06 and much lighter than the F bodies. And it has nearly a hundred horses over the Z06. If your gonna be scared or worried about any car I suggest you look into the new Cobras. That will be a new one for you. They are 15k cheaper than the Vette, have a quad cam 350 Cubic inch motor supercharged, and come with 390 horses. And guess what change one pulley and it has 440 HP, change both and it has 500 HP.

But to all those who still trust their Vipers not to worry, I am going to take care of one soon. A friend's neighbor has one with the above mods plus exhaust. He did 11.80's with his tires supposively spinning down the track. He also says he eats Vipers alive. So my friend told him to be carefull with my Viper with its small 200 shot. He says he needs to put tires before he races me. Funny, I thought he ate Vipers??

I know your gonna love it. I have an NX wet set up with a 220 shot. If your gonna use propane as well it is suppose to be even better and safer. I all have to say is hold on tight when you spray some poor Cobra or Z06, b/c your gonna fly by them. Good luck! Let us know how you like it.

Im getting there, yes I need more practice, driving against the cat like reflexs of some of the much younger guys out there, and I will build up to win,"me and the car need it"

As far as ever switching, no way, I'll stay with the Dodge Viper as from now on, since I'll have so much time studying the car, and it is my one true hobby.

It takes a very highly modded Vette to run with a stock Viper!!!

Nothing could be further from the truth. An inexpensive head/cam package will easily put a Camaro deep into the 11s, and a vette into the low 11s/high 10s. There are also many, many bolt-on f-bodies without any head work at all running in the low 12s and high 11s. It takes only minor modifications to smash a stock Viper in the 1/4 mile, from a standing start.

That being said, there is a good reason for it. Vipers are not set up for drag racing, nor should they be. Despite the almost desperate pontification of european and japanese sports car lovers, the Viper was and is designed to be a track ready race car, not a drag racer. It is wonderful on the track in the hands of an experienced driver, but the stiff rear springs and IRS that allow it to excel in this arena are an anathema to drag racing. A well set up (and lightly modified) Camaro or Mustang can easily run in the mid-low 11s, albeit with a much lower than expected trap speed. The superior live rear end coupled with the softer dampening allow these cars to efficiently put their power to the pavement.

I'd never see the day that I'd agree with an onboard moniker such as "Fluffy?" That being said and with no disrespect to the V-10 Nats. The car was intended to be a TRACK Car and not a quarter miler. If anyone wanted a low budget under 10 second car they'd really wanted a 'point and click' vette, f-body or 'stang. Theres no Viper tax to be had and most Grease Monkey's (including myself)could do the majority of the part swapping until the final project required a real expert to complete the project.

I need to find the R&T article where they setup modded cars vs stock cars of the same make & model - I'm not sure it's online, but I know I have the print mag and will see if I can scan the article in once found.

They were all feature road tests-- a Mustang Cobra, Vette, etc. They partnered with Saleen and modified four of the cars, increasing HP, adjusting suspension etc. Again, a major player in the Mod market Saleen did the mods and upgrades.

Then R&T took them all out on the track, conducted 1/4 runs, acceleration times, track races, braking tests, skid pag, lateral G test the whole book.

The results were almost unanimous - the stock cars won almost every time.

I'm hoping someone else recalls the article. It was quite telling. The basic conclusion is that multi millions of dollars go into the engineering of today's cars - esp the likes of Vettes and Vipers. And for someone to think that 10-30K of bolt ons or mods will make their car superior is just not true.

They concluded that it was possible for mods to increase the car's performance in a one, maybe two dimensional setting at best, but categrocially those changes eneded up costing performance in some other areas. And almost always across the board the modded cars broke down and had problems.

Completely ridiculous. If those were truly their results than I question not only their ability to set up a fair test, but their driving skills, journalistic integrity and intelligence as well.

With all due respect to Skip ,Horsepucky to this topic. After having 2 z06s, there is no way (stock for stock) the z06 will out run the viper. So Gm makes a hot c6 z06. No problem. Go to the 3.55s and if that isn't enough, supercharge or N (I would prefer a supercharger). Cost is fairly low. If the new z06 mods, then each person has to decide how long they want to play. I, personally, am finished buying the next model with each 50hp increase

SOLO 2??? Get out of the parking lot Fluffy. Run a SOLO 1 format or a NASA HSDE and the watch the f-bodies get dusted. I lap the f-bodies at every NASA event.
