I'll start it off like this. :) I am not sure what the protocol is for WHO starts the convoy threads.....so I just did it Texas style and grabbed the bull by the horns. :) Please, if you fit into this thread....let's get things together. If you are from another region....CHECK for an existing thread. If you don't find one....start one up! :)

I am in from VA!!!!

Last VOI I think Ron had the group heading out of DC and sleeping over somewhere midpoint. I think the most important question is who will be driving fast and who will be touring. Fast drivers will want to haul straight through with mountain dew breaks and the occational ricer whipping while the touring crew will likely want to drive short(er) distances with frequent rest stops. From listening to past stories I would think the touring group would want to be moving probably 12-24 hours ahead of the speeders.

For a convoy this big we would want ot start out in DC where others (like from NYC or Pittsburgh) could easily meet up with us.

From there we would need to plot a course that would allow for emergency fuel ups on gas, sleep, and mountian dew - sticking to the main arteries so that other groups can easily join in en route.

Anyone make the trip from DC to Dallas before to give us some idea of time and distance?

I would be interested in meeting up with the convoy, either somewhere in DC or VA. Not a far drive for me to meet up.

Bonkers, I have made the drive to Dallas 4 or 5 times from PA and from here it takes about 24 hours of straight driving, probably about the same from DC area. Also, a good midway stopping point is Nashville or Memphis, ifin you like the idea or driving 12 hours and resting.

I too would like to join up with you folks. I live in the Phila area. So, if I could possibly start with ACELLR8 and join a little farther south.

Looking forward to it. This would be my first VOI.

Let me know your route-looks like you may come right thru Little Rock and I'm pretty sure some of our group will be going.

Ed - Judging from the maps I've been looking at here that sounds like the most likely route. Course if the Nashville locals see a group of Vipers heading towards their town again they may get flashbacks and start panicing... j/k...

So figure a Saturday departure with a staurday night stay over in Nash/Memph area with a Sunday night arrival time in Dallas? Or would a Sunday Departure be a better senerio?

Anyone who comes through St. Louis is welcome to stop at my place for the night, then join our caravan.

How much is a typical stay over at the grand ol opry house? That may be a great place to stop over (nastalgic-wise) saturday night to allow everyone to regroup and rest. Course if there is anyone in the area who knows of a better - more convienient place please post...

Vipermad, try to plan your convoy to make the V-10 Nationals (drag racing) at Red River Raceway in Shreveport Louisiana on Sept 7&8. Shreveport is located on I-20. There are riverboat casino's for those who care to try their luck on slots or table games. It should be one long Viper convoy from Shreveport to Dallas for the VOI.

Count me in. I'm in Fredericksburg. :2tu:

Overnight stay in TN on Saturday sounds like a winner to me. Can you say Memphis blues and BBQ? ;)

Hey Tony, you old Rhode Islander. Don't forget about the New England, NY/CT and Quebec Regions coming down from the north. Last VOI, we all met in Ron's neck of the woods for the first sleep-over, then continued on with 30+ Vipers to Nashville. For a refresher, check out:

Please keep me, Joe O. and the crazy Canadian (Jeff P.) CC'ed on any routing plans you and/or Ron make. Note that the VOI.8 parade is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, so we'll have to plan on arriving in Dallas either Wednesday night, or first thing Thursday morning.

I sent you guys an email, but in case you don't get it:

Our plan right now is to leave from the Hampton Inn in Fishersville, VA, (same place we stayed in 2002) on Tuesday AM, spend the night somewhere just west of Nashville, and arrive in Grapevine TX Wednesday night. That makes two 600-mile days from Fishersville. We've got less than 10 cars, and I've not really set anything up with the hotel yet.
