Guys in the pursuit of getting a Viper I think someone just tried to scam me.
Check out Yahoo auto classified. There is 2002 Graphite acr viper for sale $60000.00 in ID.
Now check out ebay 2002 Graphite Viper ACR for sale by a legitimate business in Memphis. Do the pictures look familiar? Well I emailed the guy and he immediately emailed back talking about accepting my offer of $59000.00 but I must set up a escrow account and deposit 10% of the sale price into it today.
Wish I knew how to post the e-mails. Anyway he then sends me a Supposed carfax which shows the car being purchased at Palmer Dodge in Pocatello,ID 83201.
Funny I thought Palmer Dodge was in Roswell GA. Must of moved yesterday because I was looking into a Viper there.
Then a email comes about him being in a ski resort where the only means of communication is via e-mail. Those GPS cell phones must work real good in bumbf!ck nowhere to get these e-mails off.
He is going by the name of Keith Hendricks. When I emailed him advising my attorney would look into it and my accountant could wire him the money, now the e-mail has stopped.
When you screw with the Bull sometimes you get the horns. No one is going to pull a fast one from somebody who grew up in Bed sty Brooklyn. The authorites will be contacted!!!!!

Way to go. Sick the dogs of justice on him.

Today its dangerous to be the buyer AND the seller. I'm about to start advertising my C5 next week once I get the chance to detail it (been sitting in the garage all winter) and take a slew of pictures.

I'm generally on the ball, but it makes me more paranoid than usual to hear so many stories like this recently.

The same type of thing happened with a 2k Yamaha R1. There was a R1forum member who had a chromed, tricked out R1 and someone one the board found pictures of it on ebay, someone was using the pic from the forum members avatar. We all started bidding ridiculous amounts and the perpetrator cancelled the auction.

New technologies give bad people new ways to try and f*ck people over. I was looking at ebay for my Viper but I think im going with Bill Pemberton. As I have learned on this site, someone who can be trusted.

Did the "seller" by any chance nominate an escrow company to use? I heard they have a scam where they set up fake escrow sites, and just steal the money that way. Now someone has setup a fake-escrow-watch site, which in turn has now been faked...

Don't buy cars without seeing them and researching their history. That's dumb.

Saddly happens all the time. Don't pay cash (even as a deposit) for ANY Viper unless its a repituable dealer or someone you know. There are far too many stolen/undocumented vehciles out there and people who know how to abuse them. A $40k+ vechile is not something you look for at a flea market...

Here is another point if you are selling a vehicle privately. If a person buys a vehicle from you, it is not considered theirs until they take the title to the DMV and sign the title/appropriate paperwork. Just because you signed off on the title and received payment does not mean the vehicle is not yours anymore. The point is, if a person pays you, you sign off on the title, then the person goes out and kills someone on the way to the DMV or anywhere else, you and your insurance can be held liable for damages you had nothing to do with. This is why whenever I sell a vehicle, both parties make a trip to the DMV together, and all paperwork is signed there to avoid this problem.
