Can someone answer this question for me.? I have a potential buyer in Canada for my 08SSG..He wrote me today after a dealer friend told him the warranty on my Viper would be null and void in Canada..First is it true and second why.? We all know all Vipers are made in the US and I know Canada has the daytime running lights but what other changes do Canadian cars have before they are shipped to the great white North..?? NOT HAPPY to hear this. Kevin

I know of a couple of people here in Canada, where chrysler voided the warranties on their U.S. bought vehicles. I think that chrysler is trying to be prevent cross border shopping, so that the dealerships maintain equalization with their sales.

The vehicles are sold with 50 State emissions and build requirements, and any vehicle that goes out of the Country loses it's warranty. Reverse it and it might make more sense, as a car coming from Europe , even though the car is sold here, loses it's warranty.........think of gray market Mercedes in years past. The service contract is an insurance product designed and meeting standards, requirements for the United States. It is not set to adhere to Canadian law, nor was it ever applied for, hence it is not a legal , binding instrument in Canada. Sell him the car, as it will not have warranty anyway.

As everyone has said, I know it to be a fact that the warranty will be void if the car is transferred to Canada.:dunno:

Maybe tell him that, if he's really serious about buying, you'll throw in an aftermarket warranty that will allow him to bring the car to any repair shop he wants, including the dealer? Just a thought - you could likely get an aftermarket warranty that covers the remaining two or so years of manufacturer's warranty for $500 - $1000. I know that a previous aftermarket warranty I had was good in Canada.

It drives my German friends crazy the warranties we get here. They live within walking distance of the Mercedes plant and get no where near the warranty we get due to competition/tradition here. There are some trade offs, however.

Thanks everyone who PM'd me and posted answers..Iam bummed as it seemed that I finally had a decent hit..I really cant sell the car lower than 80K to get my ACR. I guess I still have until June as thats when my dealer said it should be in.?? If not I will sell my order as I had to put down a 2,500.00 deposit which is non-refundable..:( Kevin

With summertime around the corner, the market should be a bit better - especially since SSG is a popular color. Don't bail on your ACR - you'll be sorry!! Hopefully the right buyer comes around, or you can find a way to keep both (best of both worlds).

You might as well call 50 state emissions, North American emissions, as Canada follows US emissions because our population is 1/10th of the US. The only differences on the two cars are daytime running lights, and the big numbers on the speedo are KMs instead of miles. It does **** that I lost my warranty when I took my car from Cali to Canada, but the money saved was worth the loss.
I understand that they void the warranty to discourage cross border shopping, but you'd think they'd keep it valid once the car is used, to help out the owner in having more selling options, in a case such as ASPIRATIONS.:dunno:

Oh well, in a perfect world.......

Why don't you subsidize an extended warranty for him... Don't let a few G's (cost of warranty) break the deal. Just my 2 cents. Buyers are precious right now.. Make sure before you break ties, you did every thing you could to secure the deal. good luck..

Tell him to price out the most all encompasing warranty he can in Canada to cover the car adequately. Get that cost back and then just do the fair thing and split the costs with him. Looking at $77,500 for your $80,000 car when you are looking at buying a $107,000 ACR. The difference is so far in the noise level that I can't believe you are even worrying about it. If $2,500 is causing that much of a problem on your new ACR purchase the bigger question is, should you really be buying a new ACR. I am not trying to be a dick, just trying to put some reality to the situation.

BTW Once he crosses the border, he will lose the factory warranty anyway. He only had one year left on the standard warranty and no clutch warranty anyway. Don't know what he feels he is gaining. Your car doesn't even have a 1,000 miles on it. Remind him of that!

Maybe I shouldnt be buying a ACR but its my ONLY vice..I also paid close to sticker for the car (91K) so losing 11K is a hurt for me seeing Iam not a high-roller like you.I have other factors involved too that I do not wish to discuss on this forum.I did offer him what you suggested about a warranty...I was PM'd by a Canadian member that has a 08 SSG for sale so I also sent him that info too...I know that probably wasnt smart but if its ment to be it will sell. He thanked me because he can save a bunch by buying it in Canada of course..He wrote me back and told me he still will keep in touch if this car didnt work out but I hope my car sells by then...
As far as the warranty I have 2 years left on my car and the reason he is backing out is because he knows NOW that the warranty is void once it crosses the border.
I do have 2 other hopefuls but as they say,Money Talks..We will see

Sorry I wasn't trying to beat my chest and talk like a high roller. Hey, $2,500 is still real money to me too and I am definitely not a high roller. I was just trying to say (and it did not come out as such) that if your dream is to have an ACR and sell your 08 SSG, then don't let $2,500 get in the way of that dream or desire. You could have the 08 right up to the point of delivery on you 09 SSG ACR, than you will be really desperate and would probably take less than $77.5K just to be rid of the headache. If $2,500 is standing in the real way of that dream, than you have to ask yourself if you should really do it. That is all I was trying to say and sorry it did not come out as such.

Anyway I do wish you the best with your sale. If I had extra cash lying around, and I sure don't, I would be seriously talking with you because that is one very nice car you have there. Personally I like it better than the ACR, but then again I am not a a big racer.
