Start when you buy the vehicle,same for mileage.

If the Viper had 40 miles when you bought it,warranty will go to 36040 miles.

Same with extended warranties.

A 7 years 70 K miles warranty is really only a 4 years 34K miles warranty.

I am confused when the factory 3/36 warranty begins. Is it the manufacturing date stamped on the door sill sticker or the in-service date (ie when the vehicle was purchased new from dealer?)

Are you sure about that.....
I work for a Nissan dealer(apples to oranges possibly) but the clock for the warrantee starts at the "in service date" so if you took delivery on a car on Jan. 1 2000 and it has a 3 year/36k warr. it will run out Jan 1 2003, if you buy the car with 100 miles on the odo, you dont get til 36,100 miles only 36k even.
Maybe DC is different but I doubt it.
