Weird: Heater doesn\'t blow hot!

So, I'm driving around and it's getting a little chilly outside. I try to turn on the heat, and it never warms up! In fact, it's cold air!

Now, this is my third Viper, and I've NEVER had a problem with it not being hot inside the cabin! Anyone have this problem? I may have to bring the car to Tom Sessions...

Open the hood and check to make sure that when you turn the heat knob that the control valve is getting moved. It's right above the computer (ahead of the passenger compartment).

You were right on! I didn't even know that valve existed. The cable was completely unhooked from the control valve. How is it normally attached? It looks like the cable's loop end just slides over the piece of metal sticking straight up from the lever. However, it doesn't look very stable like that... if I turn the knob a few times, it looks like the loop will just come right off. Should there be a C clip or something that I'm missing? Thanks again!

Surprised to hear that anyone (especially in NC) needs "extra" heat in a Viper. ;)

Glad you got it work'd out though. :2tu:

If The "piece of metal" is round a friction washer usually goes over something like that. It's like a thin washer that slips over the shaft. It goes on one way and won't release. Any auto parts store should have 'em. AT

Linh,

There isn't any C-clip that goes on the end of the post where the cable loop attaches to. The loop is held onto that post by the friction of the loop. Try twisting the loop to increase the friction against the post. Hope that makes sense...

AT - The piece of metal isn't round... it's hard to describe. It's more like a small, flat rectangle sticking straight up.

Dave-Thanks for the headsup. I'll do exactly as you suggested... I can't believe the loop doesn't attach any more securely!

This is correct. Looks like this: ------¬_

Hope that comes out right... Anyways, make sure it makes good, abrupt 90 degree corners. If so, check to make sure the cable is not moving up/down on you; it could be causing the loop to come off. If so, secure the cable a little better if you can. Stay warm! :)

Fletcher,

Not sure about the picture, but the advice obout 90 degree corners makes sense. Thanks again to the both of you for the help... now, I won't freeze to death in the Viper :)

Re: Weird: Heater doesn\'t blow hot!

This is exactly why this Viper board is so cool. I have Thousands of dollars of upgrades on my car, and nothing can piss a wife off more than something so obvious as the heater not working when you come home real late at night from a party, and it was extremely hot in the day, but very cold at night. We froze on the way home for 45 minutes in the convertible. So I found out the problem from my tech, (Valaya Racing), and then I see you guys talking about it , and I get one of those little star lock washer doo-hickeys out of my screw assortment box, and shove it over the top of that weird shaped shaft, and "Voilla", it keeps that stupid wire from pulling off the shaft, so you can have heat when the Ol' Lady wants it. ;-) I think everyone should go out and put one of those star lock washers on it right now. Even the drag racers, because it only weighs about 1/1000th of an ounce. ;-)
I love this borad for simple ideas like this.

That is hilarious... same thing happened to me. My wife wondered why the car was so da$% hot during the day, but cold at night. Great idea with the star lock washer. I'm going to have to scrounge one of those up! Do you happen to know what size it was?

No, I don't know what size it is. I just went over to my assortment and grabbed a bunch of different sizes, and just put on the one that required a little help with some pliers. The outside is round, and the inside has those little spikes pointing in. It works great. Thanks again, Steel Snake
