Hello all you Viperholics;
The winter doldrums seem to be hanging around longer than normal so I thought I would attempt to energize everyones enthusuiasm with a preview of our Viper Events schedule for the upcoming 2013 season. At this point the list of events is tentative; I do require input from the members in respect to some details, however it is a starting framework.
2013 Viper Events Schedule
May Okanagan South
May 17th Friday; Vipers converge on Kelowna/West Kelowna; meet and greet arranged for a local eatery; location to be determined closer to the event; casual dinner and drinks to get acquainted and to discuss details for the weekend. Hotel accommodation to be arranged by each member, recommendations will be forwarded at a later date.
May 18th Saturday; Drivers meeting at 09:00 at the local West Kelowna Chevron station located on Dobbin Road at Elliott; depart 09:30 head south into the wine country for a cruise of the back roads, winery tours on route, lunch in Oliver/Osoyoos area, location to be confirmed; drive west to Keremeos continue cruising back roads; make our way back to Kelowna; dinner downtown, restaurant to be determined.
May 19th Sunday; Return to the beautiful lakeside village of Peachland to attend the 16th annual car show, check out www.peachlandworldofwheels.ca a repeat from last year where we had arranged for a parking area exclusive to the Vipers; Viper Snake Pit 2013 should be even better; lots to see and do all day; late afternoon and dinner open to suggestions.
June Vancouver Island South
June 21st Friday; The Viper Nation is returning to the Island again this year; accommodation at the Coast Victoria Harbourside Hotel and Marina; www.coasthotels.com; meet and greet at a downtown restaurant location to be determined; we can return to www.milestonesrestaurants.com within walking distance or an alternate, lots to choose from downtown.
June 22nd Saturday; Day long Viper cruise, depart hotel at 09:30 head north to Highway 14, continue west to Sooke, then further west along the west coast trail route to Port Renfrew stopping for lunch at the Coastal Kitchen Cafe, great chowder for sea food lovers, after a relaxing lunch, the Vipers continue inland north east to Lake Cowichan, an old logging community in the Cowichan Valley, brief stop for photos then continue back east to Duncan via the Cowichan Valley Highway 18. Tentative stop for a tour of the forest museum; check out www.bcforestmuseum.com , continue south to the coastal village of Cowichan Bay for a mid afternoon ice cream break, continue south thru Shawnigan Lake back roads, end our day back in Victoria staying again at the Coast Hotel. Casual dinner at a local pub in Esquimalt, http://www.spinnakers.com or alternate.
June 23rd Sunday; a couple suggestions for the day, non Viper related, visit the Royal Victoria Museum; http://www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca or travel towards Sidney on the back roads to visit the world renowned attraction; http://www.butchartgardens.com, members stay in the area or depart for home.
July Cascade Loop – Puget Sound Washington State
July 19th Friday; members from the interior meet in Kelowna, head south via Osoyoos border crossing, travel to Lake Chelan for the night, accommodation back at www.campbellsresort.com ; members from Vancouver join us from Kelowna or meet up later on route;
July 20th Saturday; leave resort after breakfast; head north to pick up Interstate 20 thru Winthrop; continue over the Cascade Mountain pass, turn onto Highway 530 to Arlington; end the day at the seaside village of Mukilteo; home of the Boeing Everett factory; accommodation and dining not set;
July 21st Sunday; leave the hotel and head to the Mukilteo – Clinton Ferry travelling to Whidbey Island, casual trip across Whidbey to the ferry terminal to Port Townsend, walk the downtown area and have lunch; travel back to Seattle stopping at Poulsbo another must see village; accommodation and dining not set;
July 22nd Monday; we are currently working on arrangements for a track event at www.ridgemotorsportspark.com several of our members and others from Washington have driven the track and recommended the circuit as Viper friendly and safe; alternative activities; Pike Street Market tour, or double back to the Boeing factory tour, need further details;
August Sunny Okanagan - Boating Day
August 16th Friday; members converge in Kelowna for a meet and greet, location to be determined,
August 17th Saturday; meet at the Chevron Station on Highway 97 Harvey Avenue at Highway 33 junction; cars fuelled up ready for the day; leave at 09:30 drive south along Highway 33 thru to Highway 3 then west to Osoyoos; continue back thru the Okanagan Valley to the hotels, dinner arrangements not set, looking at a backyard barbecue;
August 18th Sunday; we are planning a day on the lake with members and guests joining the local crews with boats; swimming and boating in the area; members that are not interested in boating could meet the group for late lunch or early dinner at one of our favourites www.gasthaus.ca on the Lake in Peachland;
September Sparkling Hill Resort -Track Day
We have a special event proposed for mid to late September; one that the ladies will most certainly enjoy!! Some of the members have experienced the world class facilities located on a mountain top near Vernon at Predator Ridge; check our Okanagan jewel; http://sparklinghill.com ;
We intend to include an auto-cross event at the local track, http://www.motoplexspeedway.com; and a cruise of the back roads in the area, dates and details to follow;
Please note that I would encourage ALL members to submit their suggestions for future Viper events; in particular members from Alberta; I am looking for ideas for an event in the southern half of the province which would hopefully entice members from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba to attend. Simply send me a PM or email.
