I can now (unfortunately)say I was right in my original assessment of the Gen V back in April when theyfirst unveiled the specs, saying that it was a huge letdown.

Minimal performance improvements over a Gen IV and the aesthetics and interior are certainly not worth $45K+ more...... as tested price was $141K....

How could they mess this up so bad? The car needed to (needs to) have a minimum of 700HP to remain at the top of the food chain of U.S. cars.

I don't think they messed anything up. Too much to type on a phone of how good they did. Ill respond with more later.

Sorry, but it's amazing to me the effort some folks go through to make a negative post. Yes, you can test the Gen5 at $145K, you can also test it for $40K less than that and get the same #s if not better. This latest test is not something I'd be overly proud of, but not something to be negative about either.

personally i'm grateful for the safety controls so i dont kill myself and get to drive another day. but apparently u can just take them off anyway if u feel suicidal:D My ferrari and lambo friends all say its a "straight line" car but I think next season when these snakes are passing them with ease on the turns given the new suspension & handling, they'll be in for a surprise.;)

Last gen viper still owns the Nurbergring Record, Vipers have been driving around F and L cars for years and years, let alone the straights, so there should be no surprise, they should be used to getting passed by Vipers.

Tell them they are full of ****. I've seen more italians doing straight lines and bonzai highway runs just as much as any car out there if not more. It's a straight line car to them cause their clutches have notorious history for breaking and god forbid one dare comes with a gated shifter. Only companies I know that now consider a manual as an option and not standard equipment. In fact I don't think any new Fcar or Lambo can be ordered with a manual. It's all a matter of who can shove more gears in a transmission.

I seem to be able to hang around corners with my friends cars on trips, driving a dinosaur 99 GTS :drive:.
Mid engined NobleM400 that has superior handling and a 550 Maranello and I don't even have my car lowered for better handling .

Face it. EVERYONE expected better #'s than what that car put up. It has extremely weak performance for almost $150K. The top of the line GTS model should have had a blower and at least 750hp for that price point.

at this point you know you aren't getting this in the car. So it's probably time to just stop talking and go away...

The only let down to me is the vast number of viper guys that are exposing themselves as not knowing much about building cars. Do you negative nellies realize that this car is different than any other - including past vipers? Natural aspiration is being pushed to limits that years ago were thought to be out of reach. I find it fascinating to watch to be honest.
I guess all the arm-chair engineers on here think they could totally re-design a car and have it dialed to perfection straight out of the box without any real world testing involved.
 Man, you guys should all get together and show the world how to build a real car!

It's NEW people.
We haven't seen the following;
- a final production car (many test mules now)
- any true bench mark test results by a qualified driver who is intimately "familiar" with the limits of the car
- any type of spin-off models like acr, verts, etc since the the tweaks will still be made so reserve judgment
- any gen V's in the hands of gear-headed viper owners who will be doing their own thing and posting youtube videos with dyno's, 0-60, 1/4 miles, etc

The car is in its infancy state with a great foundation that is primed and ready for the final tweaks.

:panic: Hey Chicken Little, the sky really isn't falling - trust me.
