What causes ACR dampers to leak?

Last fall before VOI I replaced the front passenger side damper. Was looking goo all over.

While getting the car ready for its winter nap yesterday, I was given the lovely greeting of a handfull of goo off both drivers side dampers.

Arg.

Sooo, with a car of 6,000 miles, why would it leak? Car had never really been tracked (VOIs only). Always stored in a climate controlled garage. Never abused.

What gives?? Is it just age? Design flaw? I know the ACR dampers were always prone to leaks, but what was the actual cause?

My diagnosis is .... It's withdrawal symptoms.
It wants the track.
Give it more track.
"Drive like u stole it."

Seriously, hope you get this sorted - lots of people watching.

:rolaugh: :rolaugh: Great reply :D

Seriously though, this was one of the reasons I got a car that more mileage on it.

Its a known fact that with the low mileage cars that are stored for ages and not driven much that the rubber seals harden and then fail. All cars, not just Vipers.

Sorry to hear your having problems :(

Yeah, that is a possibility. I would say maybe started before I got it as I drive it more than the original owner did. But still possible.

They can be re-built. Some have them re-built to factory specs others use parts from different manufacturers such as KONI.

The Motorsports versions are very pricey for a street car shock, there will be an alternative shortly I'm sure since Moton is not actually producing shocks since they were bought out.

Working on the fork differences now, there may be a way to shim and use the SRT versions without adding a few $100 to custom make them. I should know in a week or so when they could make them available. Looks like a real possibility though and a GREAT option for the Gen2 guys that has been not available before.
