What is the best material to wash the car with and still be gentle on the paint and clear coat? What is the best or safest wax?

I use Zest

rotflmao!

As far as car care goes, http://www.autopia.org has a WEALTH of info for any enthusiast.

I used to be a diehard Zaino user, and now pick and choose items out of their line. For my daily driver (the Mazda), i'll still use exclusively Zaino products, with the addition of Eagle One Wax as U Dry for the post wash.

For my ZR1 and my Trans Am, I have upgraded to the german made line of Menzerna. I apply their polishing products with a Porter Cable buffer, and their glaze and polymer sealant by hand. My wash is still Zaino Z7 and my quick detailer is still Zaino Z6.

I have thrown away all my cotton towels, and now use only exclusively high quality microfibers.

California Duster and Zaino.
I have washed my car twice in 4 years and logged 33.000 miles!
See it in -93 RT/10 Galleries... Not bad for a 11 year old Viper?

RedEnuf93,

Are you serious? What happens if you drive in the rain or threw a puddle, etc...? Seems this method would only work if you never get the Viper wet. Please give more info...

I too use just a California Duster and Zaino. If the car was given liberal coats of Zaino -- practically nothing sticks. Even stuff like water spots just come off with the duster. A few spritzes of Z6 Ultra Clean Gloss Enhancer and a 100% cotton rag takes care of everything else.

Use what you like, and use 2 buckets. One for the soapy water and one filled with water to dunk your mit into after you have gone over a section of car. This way, no dirty gunk gets back into your bucket and back on to your car.
