Now that I have my brake fluid situation solved my next step is to figure out the best "race" brake pad to use up front. Price is a consideration since they will not last long. I was thinking of EBC Yellow pads @ $119 pair. Anybody else have any suggestions?

This year I switched over to EBC pads for the Viper Days events and my first ever auto cross event. My record with EBC pads is 3 wins & a second in Viper Days Super Stock and second in SCCA Auto Cross ASP class. For road racing I like Yellows in the front and Greens in the rear because the greater coefficient of friction on the rear pads gives the Viper more rear braking. If your driving style is to charge up to the corner and Fred Flintstone it (a la Bill Pemberton) you may want to run Blues front and Reds rear. For Auto Cross I like Red front and Green rear because the reds come on at a lower temp. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

Hawk HT9 (if you can still get them) the 10s are not as good
or many racers like The Brake Man pads.

Tom, on behalf of EBC and GreatBrakes.com, we offer you our sincere congratulations. Going into this racing season we and EBC were "the new kids on the block", and it was very difficult to convince people to try our competition pads. Everyone quickly recognized the benefit and value of the Greenstuff version for street and autocross, but getting the word out about performance on the track has been much more difficult. Thanks so much for taking the time to test and evaluate the EBC's, and prove that you don't have to spend BIG dollars to have good pads that last and work well. We salute you for being a region and national class champion.

We really favor the EBC race compounds and also the Hawk race pads. We keep both in stock. Pagid also makes a nice pad but they are pricey.

Good Luck. Let me know if I can help!

Defining "BEST" is a slippery semantics dance!

Best price? Best in what racing venue? Best at stopping the car in a short event? An endurance event? Best at rotor friendliness? You did say race pad, but will you be dedicating the pads to racing only? Does dust and squeek matter at all? [ps I have Yellow F at $109]

PFC is a dang-good pad....but the "pros" choose a pad because of long sessions of practice, qualifying, racing...little care of cost/value...they may even be sponsored! Pro events last longer than many driver events here. What is "Best" for them almost certainly will not be "best" for you..

EBC provides great value, and "bite" without biting the wallet. Rotor friendly. Decent-to-good- endurance, and getting better! Brakeman, value ditto....but much harder on rotors. PFC and Pagid are indeed spendy, but a good choice for a dediated track pad. 99t1s HAWKS are rotor-eaters, but STOP great. Porterfield R4 are still a very good pad, but higher prices.

What is "Best" for you? Lets talk ! [ YOUR pad choice is furnished with every Stop-Tech big-brake kit...even if I have to swap out Pagids or EBCs.....I want YOU properly "matched" ]

Socal, email me. I've got a bunch of new pads leftover from before I put a brake kit on the car. I've tried them all and have a pretty good idea of how they each work.

Be careful SoCal! Everything PMUM uses comes under scrutiny as a suspected rules violation. Additionally, after observing him at the finals I know he never touched his brake pedal. So how could he know anything about pads? I believe his technique was the tried and true neck method of slamming it in reverse. Congrats PMUM on a 1:18!!!! Incredible.
