What rearend do we have? Can we use a TA Girdle Cover? ---

I run the TA girdle covers on all my solid rearend cars, but wasnt sure if they made one for the independent rears that we have.

It stiffens up the pumpkin, and puts preload on the main bearings.

What rearend do we have, what is it called ( IE. Ford 9" , Chevy 10 or 12 bolt, ect ) ?

If we can run one, whats the part number I am looking for?

When they have the cover off, I will have them check to see what rearend gears I have installed ... they can count the teeth and figure it out , right?

rear shot. in order to get the cover off to look at the gears you have to take the whole thing out. not sure why you would do that just to look at it.

I just got the car a week ago and havent crawled under it all the way yet.

I want to look at the gears because I am not sure if I have 3.55's , 3.73's, or 4.10's

I found a receipt from the previous owner stating "gear install" ...

So to answer my original question, there are no TA girdles for these rearends hahah ---

I actually asked another member with 4.10 gears to tell me what mph he was pulling at 4th gear / 2000 rpm ... we are both at the same speed , so I guess I have 4.10's.

Where is the oil fill and drain on that rearend, is it a pain to swap fluids? I cant see it in the pics, unless its in front of the right axle in the first pic ---

i've only been here a year so i dont know too many vipers in this area. all the fluids are easy to change, the fill and drain are right on the side of the diff, can't miss it.

A stock rear end does not have a drain plug.

How do you change the fluids ... you have to take the entire rearend out to take the cover off? ---

To change the diff fluid you can either use a suction method to draw out the fluid then replace it through the same hole. Or there is a how-to with details to make a drain hole in the diff. The fill plug is on the passenger side and uses a 3/8 allen wrench to remove.

If you choose to use the suction method I found it is easier to have a helping hand to operate the hand pump (unless you are fortunate enough to have a Midyvac available) while another fishes the tube down in the diff. I was not able to get ALL the diff fluid out but I got 28 of 32oz out. The drain plug may be put on my to-do list in the future. Expect to make a mess with this fluid change!

The Mopar Performance differential came with the additional holes on the bottom to accommodate the Mopar Performance diff cooler unit. You may be able to find some differentials out there but the cooler package has been gone for many years. My avatar photo shows a Mopar Performance diff. with the two holes at the bottom.

The pic you posted is not a GEN II diff. nor is the first diff picture you displayed (post #2). Your post #3 is a Gen II diff.

The full diff pics posted were to show the mounting of the rear cover not exactly what the diff looks like, they are obviously two different diffs. Man there must be a ton of lucky guys out there that got free MP diffs in there Vipers.

Actually I don't think they sold many of those differentials. As far as factory performance parts go, they were a great deal. I think I paid $1100 for mine at Woodhouse 8 yrs ago. I wanted the cooler assembly as well but they had discontinued them.
