Ford went retro with the T Bird and the Mustang. Chevy went retro on the Camaro and Dodge went retro on the Charger and the Challenger.

But there are several seriously popular muscle cars out there that drivers with graying hair like myself would love to see hit the showroom floors.

I would love to see a retro version of the 71 Plymouth Convertible Cuda, the 70 Buick GS or 87 Gran National, or a 66 Chevy Chevelle Convertible.

As a Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth guy I am torn with the retro Charger and Challengers. Back in the 70's these two cars were lightweight powerful beasts that shamed Ford and Chevy muscle/pony cars. Today the Charger and Challenger come in close to two tons and under 500 hp and have surrendered the throne of present day muscle car to Chevy and Ford. I absolutely love both of these cars, but the thought of coming in heavy and mildly powered relative to the competition just gives me diarrhea everytime I think about it.

Anyway should SRT come out with some intimidating beasts like a 3500 lb 670 hp Plymouth Convertible Cuda or if Buick comes out with a 3700 lb 685 hp retro Buick GS Stage 1...any of you guys buying? I know I would. God forbid Buick grows a set and re-releases a modern day twin turbo GNX with like 700 hp...****...with awd and front and back seats this car would fly out of showroom floors faster than any American car on the planet.

If only we lived in a perfect world.

What retro muscle cars would you like to see brougtht back and with what kind of weight and power?

Not so much any specific cars, but specific models of certain ones. It would be nice to be able to order a lightweight stripped down Challenger with a 426. I am showing my age a little, but the days of picking your horsepower on a specific engine is something I would like to see again. Having to upgrade a Challenger to the SRT8 comes with a hefty increase in price, just upgrading the drivetrain on a model would also bring back the days of ordering a sleeper instead of having a model that screams what it is. I guess I am a dinosaur in these regards, but it doesn't hurt to dream.

Corvette. Anything pre 1973. There are four distinct styles from 53 through 72 and all of them beautiful. But being GM they are bound to screw it up.

Troublemaker has a good idea. Bring back some stripper or unique models in the line, as Retro is on it's way out with the American Manufacturers. A Challenger without the rear seat , some lightweight rims, and no upgraded stereos or roofs , etc. would be cool and frankly would appeal to a distinct customer. Likely , they could even price it well as it would be limited and hit a key market.

A Challenger with a 470hp Hemi , but 300-400 lbs trimmed off, would make one heck of a street/strip machine.

Agreed, a modern day Cuda (coupe and vert), GS and Grand National, all light and fast would be just awesome. They would even possibly make me upgrade.

But because they don't (and I can't afford a gen V) I won't. :D

Not exactly muscle but a modern interpretation of the 59 Cadillac would be a great cruiser.

I liked what Ford did a few years back when they built a Retro 50s, F100 Pick up truck for the Auto Shows, I would love one of those with a new engine and modern running gear.

I completely forgot about the Ford GT retro supercar that Ford had great success with and still looks AMAZING and still performs AMAZING. I simply LOVE the Chevy SSR! Still too heavy and rather underpowered but still an icon on the streets.

Why do car companies do that? GM went all out with the Buick Gran Nationals in the 80's and hit the nail on the head. And Ford has created international buzz with their 662 hp Ford Mustang and has Mustang owners feeling proud and talking all kinds of crap to every one else.

Why wont Dodge come out with a retro Barracuda sporting some 675-690 hp that is stripped of all the unnecessay weight and will kick Mustangs ass? The market is there. There are enough graying blokes out there whose finances would allow them to jump at a $65,000 Hemi Cuda or even a retro 426 superchaged Hemi powered Road Runner boasting some 675 hp and weighing some 3500 lbs or less. They could do a limited edition run and I bet if they charged $70,000 for these cars or slightely more these cars would be sold before they hit showroom floors.

Geez I hope to live long enough to see Dodge grow a set and listen to the people that want to buy these cars. If they were bold enough to make a Plymouth Prowler (again way underpowered) they should go one step further and build a high powered relatively light weight Hemi Cuda....that would do amazing things for us buyers and have a major impact on the brands image.

Another vote for 71 Cuda BUT.... I would not buy it with an automatic transmission... Anyone else be frustrated if they built it without 3 pedals?

Ford Pinto with the exploding Gas Tank! Set it up with remote control drive-ability so you can slam the brakes in front of a Prius or Smart Car!

Closest Dodge got to this is the Drag Pack. Viper engine in a lightened chassis.

With so many federal regulations it may be difficult to lighten the cars up too much, and still keep the price affordable.

Think it is only a matter of time till somebody drops a Hemi or Viper engine in a Dart. That will rule the streets...

Motor Trend says that SRTs 2nd car will be an SRT Barracuda. Doubt it will have 600hp though.

I've heard this from more than one source. I was wondering how they would bring back the Cuda without the Plymouth nameplate, but using SRT, you can bring back anything! I heard the Cuda will actually replace the Challenger. There's supposed to be a Hemi north of 550HP coming with it.
