Clean carfax, everything stock.

Over the phone guy says "make me an offer." He recently lowerd his asking price to $41,900.

Now, before I drive 500 miles to inspect this car my wife requires (and I agree) that a sale price needs to be agreed upon, so......assuming everything checks out.....what should I offer, without offending the guy?

only 12,200 miles.

Even before you make the drive, you may consider asking someone close to the car from the club here to initially check it out in person for you. It may or may not even be worth the drive. If I read the ad correctly, it's in Atlanta Ga. Tons of VCA members in that area. I'm sure there are some willing to check it out for you.

Seems expensive for an RT/10! I got my 2000 GTS for under that price with a spare set of wheels and tires, 5 point harnesses, GT2 rear wing, side splitters, and rear diffuser!

AND that was just before the recession started ;)

OK my car has higher mileage but, that still seems dear?

Alright guys..........NUMBERS.....SUGGESTIONS.......

I appreciate evryone's help, and I am close to pulling the trigger on one with higher mileage about 60 miles south of me. But if I could get this one with 17,000 less miles for at just a few dollars more....I'd jump on it.

So give me a price I should suggest. $38K, $35K? I guess the worst he could do is hang up on me :(

Really, you are the one that has been researching the market, so, you probably know as much as the rest of us. You will always get a response from someone that got a great deal, and maybe waited a year to find it.

I'd suggest offering the guy 10% less than kbb.com or edmunds.com Private party values. They seem to me to be low, but what do I know. If those prices seem reasonable to you, it gives a logical basis for your offer.

All depends on how much you want it and how much he wants to sell it.(and how much he is still thinking pre-depression prices)

I'm not good at estimating value, but I do know a VCA member who lives in Duluth and could probably check it out for you. He has a Gen 3 now, but used to have a Gen 2 RT/10. I don't recognize the car. Is the owner in the GA-VCA?

I don't think he is a member. KBB on his car, from a private owner, is $31K. No way he will go that low. I'm close to buying the one south of me, that is now at a different dealer other than WILDE JAGUAR/LEXUS. Asking price on that one is $36.5K with 29k miles. That's before negotiation. Also I have a substantial trade in which will save almost 2 grand on sales tax.

If I could get this one in Duluth for $36k {unlikely}(+ 7% sales tax) that would be $38,520 after all is said and done. Minus $23K, what Carmax has offered to buy my Lexus for (without me buying a car from them) = $15,520 after tax. I'D JUMP ON THAT.

hmmmm

Contrary to most ebay shoppers a clean viper is very difficult to find used. Most vipers that old have had their share of mishaps of some sort or another.

Paying more initialy for a clean well maintained car will without a doubt save you money in the short and long term.

Which means the few clean ones will obviously cost considerably more than the majority of others, so keep that in mind when you look for an amazing deal.

Good luck

PS. Make sure you have the car inspected by a professional, most mechanics dont know the first thing about these cars.

Explaining Viper things to you
I think the hood gaps look very good compared to most GenII's I have seen, anyone agree??

I agree. Most Vipers I have seen have a gap above the headlight which I assume is an air entry point for a venturi effect to sweep hot engine compartment air from that area. Said air exiting the hood vents. Which in the case of white hood vents, is like double the efficiency of body color vents.

I say the hood looks good.

The 99 RT/10 looks great from the pictures. I was near Lynnwood today (working unfortunately) but didn't see that dealer, it must be off the main drag.
The price seems great, if you are serious, I would suggest paying Cam some $$$ to take a look at it and evaluate it, he has worked on and repaired more than a hundred Vipers in the Seattle area and while he is not running that business any longer he still tries to help out when he can.

For Personal Use Only

Rebuilt/Reconstructed Title
A Rebuilt/Reconstructed vehicle is a salvage vehicle that has been repaired and restored to operation. These vehicles are often severely damaged before they are rebuilt and refurbished parts are typically used during reconstruction. In most states, an inspection of the vehicle is required before the vehicle is allowed to return to the road.
Manufacturer Buyback or Lemon
A DMV or a state agency marks an official document or issues a Manufacturer Buyback/Lemon title when a vehicle has been repurchased by the manufacturer. Not all states issue manufacturer buyback titles and the specific requirements for a lemon law vehicle varies by state.
Odometer Rollback
If a more recent odometer reading is less than an older reading, then the odometer may have been tampered with and "rolled back".
Manufacturer Recall
Automobile manufacturers issue recall notices to inform owners of car defects that have come to the manufacturer's attention. Recalls also suggest improvements that can be made to improve the safety of a particular vehicle. Most manufacturer recalls can be repaired at no cost to you.
Basic Warranty
Most manufacturers offer a basic warranty for new vehicles. These warranties vary by manufacturer and typically last for a certain amount of time and/or a set number of miles.
Not Actual Mileage Title
When the seller certifies, under the Federal Odometer Act, that the odometer reading does not reflect the vehicle's actual mileage. This may occur because the odometer was tampered with, broken, or replaced.
Junk Title
A Junk Title is issued on a vehicle damaged to the extent that the cost of repairing the vehicle exceeds ~ 75% of its pre-damage value. This damage threshold may vary by state. The majority of states use this title to indicate that a vehicle is not road worthy and cannot be titled again. Some states treat Junk titles the same as Salvage.
Loss Due To Fire Title
The vehicle sustained major damage due to fire. In most states, fire damage titles are issued when the cost of repairing the vehicle for safe operation exceeds its fair market value.
Exceeds Mechanical Limits
A vehicle with a 5-digit odometer cannot accurately track mileage after 99,999 miles because the odometer rolls over. This title is the result of a seller certifying under the Federal Odometer Act, that the odometer reading EXCEEDS MECHANICAL LIMITS of the odometer.
Structural / Frame Damage
In most cases, a vehicle is inspected for structural or frame damage, depending on the body design, after an accident or other incident. All levels of accidents from minor to severe can cause structural / frame damage and in most cases it can be repaired.
Airbag Deployment
Occurs when the driver, passenger or side airbag has been used or deployed during a crash or other incident. If an airbag has been deployed, it must be replaced by a qualified technician. Have this car inspected by a mechanic prior to purchase.
Salvage Title
A Salvage Title is issued on a vehicle damaged to the extent that the cost of repairing the vehicle exceeds ~ 75% of its pre-damage value. This damage threshold may vary by state. Some states treat Junk titles the same as Salvage but the majority use this title to indicate that a vehicle is not road worthy and cannot be titled again in that state. The following eleven States also use Salvage titles to identify stolen vehicles - AZ, FL, GA, IL, MD, MN, NJ, NM, NY, OK and OR.
Total Loss
An insurance or fleet company declares a vehicle a total loss when a claim exceeds ~ 75% of its pre-damage value or if the vehicle is stolen and not recovered. This damage threshold varies by company. These companies typically take possession and obtain the title. Not all total loss vehicles result in a DMV-reported branded title, like a Salvage or Junk title. See the glossary for more information.
Accident / Damage Indicator
Various events could indicate an accident or damage in a vehicle's history, such as: salvage auction, fire damage, police-reported accident, crash test vehicle, damage disclosure, collision repair facility and automotive recycler records. See the glossary for more information.
Hail Damage Title
The vehicle sustained major damage due to hail. In most states, hail damage titles are issued when the cost of repairing the vehicle for safe operation exceeds its fair market value.
Flood Damage Title
States issue flood titles when a vehicle has been in a flood or has received extensive water damage.
Standard Equipment

First Owner
When the first owner(s) obtains a title from a Department of Motor Vehicles as proof of ownership.

Lease
When someone leases a car from a dealer, the dealer actually sells the vehicle to a leasing company. The leasing company then collects payments for the vehicle from the new owner for 24, 36, 48 or more months. A leasing company can be an independent car dealer or a car manufacturer.

New Owner Reported
When a vehicle is sold to a new owner, the Title must be transferred to the new owner(s) at a Department of Motor Vehicles.

Ownership History
CARFAX defines an owner as an individual or business that possesses and uses a vehicle. Not all title transactions represent changes in ownership. To provide estimated number of owners, CARFAX proprietary technology analyzes all the events in a vehicle history. Estimated ownership is available for vehicles manufactured after 1994 and titled solely in the US including Puerto Rico. Dealers sometimes opt to take ownership of a vehicle and are required to in the following states: Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and South Dakota. Please consider this as you review a vehicle's estimated ownership history.

Title Issued
A state issues a title to provide a vehicle owner with proof of ownership. Each title has a unique number. Each title or registration record on a CARFAX report does not necessarily indicate a change in ownership. In Canada, a registration and bill of sale are used as proof of ownership.

CARFAX DEPENDS ON ITS SOURCES FOR THE ACCURACY AND RELIABILITY OF ITS INFORMATION. THEREFORE, NO RESPONSIBILITY IS ASSUMED BY CARFAX OR ITS AGENTS FOR ERRORS OR OMISSIONS IN THIS REPORT.

I think we have all seen carfax's before. You could have just relayed what it said. With that being said, Carfax is a reference point, certainly not an absolute. A car can definitely have had previous accident damage without it being on carfax. Carfax only reports what is reported to them. Once again, just have someone check it out for you, then deal your price. It's not rocket science.

OK yes I did get a good deal on my car, but I was looking for well over a year and half :)

There will always be other cars out there, its just a case of keep looking ;)

As far as the car your looking at goes, I think no more than $35 max!

As far as I can see it looks very stock apart from the Hard top!

It dose not appear to have smooth intake tubes, That's the first thing I would want to improve. Then if you want to change the gearshift for a short throw shifter, that would also be another thing to budget for! How old are the tires? You should think about getting new rubber if they have been on the car for a while? Again that's going to add another $1000 US to the price tag ;)

Just my thoughts, Hope it helps :)

My buddy just sold his 14000 mile 2000 ACR and got 39000. (Car was in A PLUS CONDITION )If an ACR of that year is worth 39 i would think an RT-10 has to be a min of 5000 cheaper.

I have my 01 RT/10 in the classifieds. It is a straight, well maintained car with all of the bolt ons. I'm willing to negotiate the price. The miles are pretty high because it has been my daily driver for close to 8 years. Most of the work was done on the car about 25K miles ago, so the drive train is pretty fresh. Tom Sesssions can vouch for the car.
