What were factory mods to boost Gen HP to 450?

Another newbie question...

What were the stock changes made in Gen 2's to boost power to 450hp?

Do any of these changes make aftermarket mods less effective than published claims? i.e. are K&N filters & smooth tubes still good for 10+hp? are cat-back exhaust upgrades worthwhile? headers?

Any advice is appreciated as I develop my 02 RT/10 mod budget for spousal approval. :p

Thanks.

I am assuming you mean at the wheels? Cause a Gen 2 stock makes more than 450 at the crank.

K&N and smooth tubes are only beneficial if you do other mods along with them. Unfortunatly I to was lead to believe that a K&N and smooth tube would give me 10hp, but on the dyno it gave nothing.

To get to 450 on an 02, you will need. K&N/smoothtubes-Headers-Exhaust-and maybe no cats or high flow cats.

I believe the question he is asking is weather the Gen-2 engine is simply a gen 1 engine with some mods on it, which in turn gave it 450 HP instead of 400, and will make some aftermarket mods useless...? did I get that right?

If that is the question, here is the answer:

-a gen 2 engine is almost ENTIRELY different than a gen-1 engine. different components, arrangements, materials, design, compression, etc. All mods which can be applied to a Gen-1 and gain HP can also be applied to a gen-2.

Thanks FINALGTS... that is the answer I was looking for. Headers, low restriction cats, corsa exhaust ... here I come.

My 93 RT has SVSI headers, high performance cats, borla exhaust, tubes and
aluminum flywheel. I got 416 RWHP on the dyno with these bolt ons.
Thought you might be interested. Gen 1 engines respond well to mods as do the
Gen 2's.

Clifton- May I strongly suggest B&B Cat-Back over Corsa? Much more Muscular sounding-(like a borla)- but does not drone, and has a full 3" setup.

Thanks guys. On the cat-back's I'm going to go to a few Viper events and sample the different configs before making up my mind.

Charles.
