Thanks everybody for the for the wheel (and other viper info), but am still a little confused. I have a 93 R/10 and want to upgrade the wheels. I like the 5 spoke GTS wheels. Sounds like i should avoid the 96 wheels. Confused about which ones are chromed, alum, painted, cast, forged, etc.

Thanks,

Nothing wrong with the 96 wheels unless you race on them. At least that is what I gather from reading many posts on the subject.

Buy what you want, there is no recall on any wheels, Are you racing? don't worry about it, I have 96 wheels on my car, chrome plated and polished aluminum, with the welds and everything, FINE.

Only the 96 GTS wheels were chromed and they were cast. The 97-98 wheels were MOSTLY forged, but there were early rims(left over I believe) that were still cast, and they were all polished.

Even if you track your car pretty heavily, 96 wheels are OK for most people. Just stay away from Hoosiers and slicks. Because they aren't forged and are somewhat maligned, you should be able to pick up a nice set for an attractive price.

The rumor was that the 96 roadsters' wheels got painted because they didn't look good enough to move ahead to the polish step. Whether this is true or not, I don't know.

get some 18" wheels (1999 and newer) you'll save money. 17" Viper size are getting more and more $$$ and harder to find.

I didn't think any of the wheels were ever chromed. I know they went with a higher polish from 97 to 98.

I've got the chrome wheels on my 96. I believe they were an option in 96, but I could be wrong. Not likey, but there is always a first time :D

That wasn't my experience. I found several sets of the old 17" three spokers for very cheap, like $1000/set.
