Re: Are they ever going to build 08 ??

There have been no customer cars built but they will be very shortly. This is due to the very typical delays for starting up a new production line. New engine, electronics, transmission, rear end, interior options, and body/paint manufacturer all add variables to the start date. No quality issues, emissions, etc. are a factor. It's simply typical for new production.

And the wait will be so very well worth it... :2tu:

I would think through what you say before you say it (even if fed to you by some "exec"). This statement would be the ridicule of the industry if it were true.

I understand that production will not be active until the current VCA raffle for the first production 2008 Viper is sold out. So send in those raffle ticket forms and let's get the show on the road.

Well if the rest of the industry hand-built the cars and many of the parts I would agree. But in the case of the Viper it is indeed about right. And fed directly by an exec.

Note that in 2002 the production for the new 2003 Viper was slated to start in August. Yet the first customer car didn't ship until mid December. Certainly NOT was is expected for 2008, but an example of these "typical" delays, especially on a very small production car. Now if it were a minivan that sells a jillion copies, I suspect it might be a more rigid schedule.

PS. You aren't going to start stalking my posts just 'cause I haven't had time for a well thought-out reply to your PM, are you? ;)

Do Dutchmen also have to pay those taxes involved in the raffle? I just hope Scott can come through for me, just maybe I'll also buy one of them tickets through PayPal. Would love to be the one to walk away with it :D

Chris I made this post because you indicated it was normal in the industry for such delays. Viper unique aspects are not represented anywhere else in the NA auto industry, so the only conclusion is that you were comparing to other vehicle plants. As to the 2003 launch I do believe production did indeed start close to on schedule. For a whole new car, not just powertrain changes. Sale of the vehicle is dependent on many other factors. You cannot compare production timing of one to sale timing of another.

As to the other topic (which you brought up here) you and the national board will be hearing much more about it soon.

That response, though not precise, sounded reasonable to me :dunno: ... let's face it, this is a board for faithful Viper customers, not 'the industry,' and with the '08s not in our hands yet, we faithful are scratching to talk about anything - how 'bout the '08 sheet metal torque specs, we haven't covered that yet :D ... I think if we had pics from the '08 brochures, if tuners had been testing and working with the cars, if we had other stuff to chew on, then we wouldn't speculate on possible start-up delays ... but all we can do now is wait for more information, and talk ourselves in circles :(

Sorry, but working in the industry if someone stated this to any automotive executive they would be out of a job. No matter what car line or OEM they worked for. Read this more carefully.

"This is due to the very typical delays for starting up a new production line. Absolutely untrue. If it were the losses would be phenomenal.

As to you Chris to state I am following you around. You give yourself too much credit. In this case you made a statement that made the automotive industry sound like a bunch of idiots, accepting all sorts of exorbitant losses as just very normal activity. It is not and we are not.
