Does anyone know a good place to have our valve covers chrome plated? I've checked around my area and most of them don't do it. I understand magnesium has a different process to chrome plate it then other metals.
better off switching to billet aluminum ones and chroming them if you wish or just goe with high polished ones..Magnesium originals dont hold finish well over time
You cannot chrome magnesium. Even polishing wount help, they tarnish inside out.
Your best bet is to buy billet aluminum covers at +$1000...
(Not cheap)
You could get the covers Powder coated a bright silver which will be close to chrome. Not the same, but close. I had mine done red to match the engine compartment. Bad picture, but it does look awesome.
Mike, I've tried powder coating but it out gassed and I got all sorts of bubbles. I'm wondering if I should just paint it. This is a lot harder than it should be.
I get some bubbles once in a while too. I put a pin hole in the bubbles and they return to normal. A little bit of extra maintenance, but I don't mind.
I have a guy who can powdercoat yours, no bubbles.
He did mine 2 years ago, they are like new even today.
Let me know if you are interrested, I'll give the telephone number.
