After hard track usage, my 96 factory wheels cracked. I can't remember if the 97s are ok or just as bad as the 96. I'm pretty sure 98 on are good.

Skip also sent out a bulliten about wheel failures from Viper Days.

Anybody remember?

96 and some 97 (colored) were made using a casting process. Polished 97 wheels were Forged. But the p/n were the same for the 2 wheels. I had a 97 GTS and bought a spare set of factory wheels. They sent cast wheels which were returned and replaced the forged wheel. They are easy to tell apart. The cast wheel is made from 2 sections that are welded (the weld is about 1/2 wide attaching the barrel to the spoke section) and the forged are one solid unit with no weld.
