Which Axle???

Hey guys, I'm currently rebuilding a 08 convertible. I need one rear axle shaft and a couple of questions have popped up. I have Jon at Partsrack trying to find me a stock used replacement butnow I'm just wondering:
1) are the 08/gen 4 axles different than 03 - 06 axles?
2) should I just bite the bullitt now and go with aftermarket axles and if so which brand do you guys recommend so I can let Jon know Looking for a direct bolt in upgrade if available.

I think they are different, but the Unitrax axles are $800 I think.

2008's are the same as 2003-2006. 2009's got a slightly different shaft due to some issues with the '08 ACR's, and all of the 09's including non-ACR's got the new shafts as a carryover.

All 03-10 halfshafts will interchange, improvements were made over the years to the shaft and CV cages, the 09-10 shaft is the strongest.

When a friend's 08 Viper halfshaft was compared to a new, placement halfshaft supplied by Dodge, the new shaft weighed 3 pounds more and had a slightly different look mid-shaft...and, therefore, was not used on the 08 Viper.
