Hi Everyone, My name is John Nguyen. I just recently purchased a 02' Yellow RT/10. I would like to know which Cat-Back exhaust would be right for me. I really do-not want it to be loud. I am into more of a deep sound. Please give me some suggestions. I am considering Borla. I have been reading the forums here for the last 3 months and you guys made me want to get a viper over anything. Well Thanks ahead for all advice to the exhaust question.

Best thing to do is to get together with some Viper guys and listen to their exhausts. Since you do not want it loud, but want a deep rumble, I recommend Corsa.

Love the sound of my Random Tech 3" cats and B&B 3" catback. My wife was very worried it would be too loud. It has a much better sound than stock. Not "too" loud, definitely a lot more rumble though. She's happy with it too. Between 2,000 and 3,500 rpms it's actually rather quiet. Above or below and it's much more aggressive.

BTW, nice choice of cars.

I have a Corsa and it sounds like the corsa web site.It is not as DEEP sounding as others.Makes more of a euro exotic sound than american muscle sound. It does not drone but I didn't find it loud enough.WHAT?!Of course I have a GTS.I am now no cats and headers and it is LOUD!!!.Whatever you choose the volume will increase with the install of after market cat back.High flow cats increase the level.Without cats it will sound like Lemans! No cat back is too loud for anyone period. They just have different tones.Call Jon B.He has deals and can give an honest asesment as to tone. Then to increase volume go to high flows. It doesn't sound like no cats are for you unless you and wife change your mind and want to be outrageous. Corsa is not deep sounding to me at all.

B&B, Borla, Belanger etc. seem deeper to me, but are also loud.

You might want to look at a simple muffler delete like Random tech or SnakeOyl. They are a lot cheaper and may be just the little bit of something extra you are looking for.

So true.

Exhaust is the most frequently asked question. And exhaust note is the most personal opinion.

Loud but not too loud? I like my rear muffler delete for $150. I also like the cost.

Remember, you have an RT/10. With the rear window removed you can hear a lot more than in a GTS.

What are rear muffler delete? is that just removing the rear mufflers altogether? My friend said I should just do a custom flow master with random cats. has anyone done this? Is flow master a good company? My friend has it on his Hemi and it sounds awesome. Thanks again for all advice. Any Viper owners in the Redondo beach/Manhattan Beach/ Torrance area in here? I would like to meet and see what you have done to your viper.

Rear muffler delete: There is one rear muffler. Both sides flow into it. Go to any muffler shop and have them remove and replace it with...

1. straight pipes.
2. H pipe.
or
3. X pipe.

Any of the above will be a noticable improvement.

I've had the rear muffler delete, Corsa and Borla. Borlas are definitely deeper than the rest. You can sometimes get a Borla for around $850 shipped on Ebay (which is what I did for my RT10). That was probably my favorite sound of the three. Corsa is a close second (but only because I went straight pipes with it). On my Borla setup, I had hi-flows.

You could always just call people with different setups, and listen to the sound over the phone like that car commercial ;)

I have the same Q's. Do you buy the muffler delete? Or just have these pipes (like an X pipe) put in place of the muffler. Does any of these including the random Tech cat's help free up some ponies/torque. I know full exhaust setups do. Which is best (straight, X , or H)? Or is it Triple X :p

Not trying to sound like an idiot, it's just that CA has such strict laws and standards I do not want to get screwed up and have to do something over.

John,
Are you in Mission Beach (San Diego)? I live in Normal Heights and have the Borla catback. You're welcome to stop by and listen to mine.

actually I'm more north of you Bruce. I am in the Torrance South bay area of Los Angeles. But thanks anyways. I think I'm just gonna go with the Flow Master custom exhaust with random cats.

I've never heard of Flowmasters on a Viper. Do they make a muffler that fits inside the side sills? Let us know how you like the sound and post pics. Flowmasters are the best sounding mufflers for V-8's. :2tu:

You can buy a muffler delete system from SnakeOyl or Random Tech. It replaces the rear subassembly of your exhaust, which is after the mufflers in the side sills. Some guys do it themselves and have a muffler shop just cut out the two rear mufflers.

Generally, X pipes create less drone than an H pipe. Hp gains are not that significant, I'm guessing 10-15hp.

I have a "Henissey" cat back on my GTS, and it sounds better than any system I've heard. It's very deep and aggressive at idle, loud and mean when you're in the gas, but there is no resonance at all on the highway. I've heard them all, and this one is definitely my pic!

Make sure you get a 3¨system if you want to see any gains in power.

Never heard of Flowmaster for a Viper either. I would make sure I heard one before I purchased it, as well as see a dyno of power gains, etc.

But like many have said, go to a Viper meet and listen to all different types of names, as well as setups. Headers and HI-flo cats will make a difference in sound too.

I went Belanger Headers, Roe HF, and Borla 3¨, and I couldn´t be happier with it.
