Car looks great but that trunk gap is even worse on white. Hopefully someone like Jeff Lemke develops a fix for that. It's really bad.

yeah and behind those rear wheels the body of the car looks really dirty for a white model. i'd expect that with black but usually white cars dont show as many imperfections. Still a great looking car overall; I'm glad I went with no stripes.

I think that's rubber from burn outs. Notice the car has front factory wheels but the rears r different looks more like a street slick also

The car was running non stock rear wheels with 18" Mickey Thompson Street E.T. drag radials. What you see on the back of the car is rubber from the burnouts. This was a private track rental and the strip was well prepped. The fit and finish of the car was excellent. White works well with the Gen V. The Viper is not a drag racer. It is a road racer. It's gearing is not ideal for drag racing. Brooks did a great job acclimating to the car. It was his first time running a Gen V. To be more effective in the quarter, it needs an adjustment that reduces or eliminates the infamous bog that is a well known phenomenon of Vipers. Brooks has posted in another thread that he thinks that the ACR tire may work better than the MT Street E.T. Time will tell. This is just the beginning of what will inevitably be the evolution of the Gen V as used in the drag racing environment.

Jon. The lighting in the video is a bit distorted. The gaps did not look like that in person.

The gaping gap in the rear trunk area looks just like on the car I saw that was presented at Pebble Beach. Here's a pic I took..

I havent seen any pics of the newer production spec cars without that gap in the trunk lid sadly. That shouldnt have gotten by QC imho for the price of the car. Oh well. The FGT had a bad fit to the rear clamshell too at a similar price point. You dont see that often on the Euro supercars.

I wonder if it is a pre-production - the one I saw this week I didn't notice gaps that bad (Though, with white, it all sort of pops out)

Here is what is disconcerting to me:

Where the trunk, rear fascia, and rear drivers quarter panel merge, it looks like the quarter panel needs to come over about 2-3mm. Where the panel and the fascia meet, there is a pretty major misfit above the taillight

Ralphs white car didn't seem to have these issues (The bumper on this SRT seems to be a bit skewed as well if you notice the lines for "panel gap")

Ralphs car was also a GTS where the rear fascia is black and would hide a gap like this. If you remember, Ralph was challenged about this on twitter and his response was that someone didn't close the the trunk all the way on the LE at Pebble Beach. Apparently that was't true and I didn't think it was when he said it. However, these have all been pre-production models and I'm sure gap fitment was not as important as vehicle function. So the only thing to do is see if the red dealer demo base SRT has this issue so that way there is no black fascia to hide the gaps.

SRT should take notice of this though. If you remember it was the first complaint Top Gear had about the car and is commonly mentioned on this forum. First thing complained about, yet one of the first things promised in the reveal was that fit and finished would be unparalleled. Lets see....

If that is the car from Palm Beach, I think that the trunk may not be fully closed in the photo because it did not look like that when I saw it in the morning. What time did you take this photo? I ask because another explanation may be that vibration knocked the body panel out of position a bit. Some of the launches were pretty violent. On one of the ones in the morning I saw the clam shell move around quite a bit. This car was a production car but a marketing car. It had been used by a stunt driver for filming before it was used in Palm Beach. I saw a red Gen V at University Dodge on the show room floor. The fit and finish was excellent.

I was their, the Gen 5 is really nice. It was totally stock except for the rear street drag tires. It ran from 11.30 s to 11.60s all day long. Must have done at least 10 runs. It ran great with no issues I saw. I ran a personal best in my stock Porsche 911 Turbo S ,10.8 @ 126 mph.. I will be getting 4th. new Viper after seeing the Gen 5 in person now...

By the way, I also agree, the fit and finish was excellent. Who cares about a little gap anyway. The thing was bullet proof, they were running it really,really hard all day lng,and it was hot out and again no issues.That is what is important.... Bullet Proof for racing....

It is a pre-production test mule car. The only white production car on the road right now is Ralph's GTS. I have a white car on order, so I've been monitoring this.

Vipers have always had a bad fit and finish IMO. There are a few that were done right. The tradition of gap still remains with the spirit of the viper. Sad but true.

That is not Ralph's Car... it is an early engineering car that was a garage queen for quite a period (which is why there are no "spy" photos of this original white car). Which is why it looks "newish" but as you point out it is not fit as well as Ralphs. So have fun out there, but know that yes, there are two white ZDs out and about.
