Can I buy more extended warranty coverage for my 94? Currently the car has twenty some thousand miles. I like the assurance of having no major expense on my toys.

It depends on the in service date car??? Have dealer pull in-service date off your VIN#. If it is over (I think)8 years old, from in service date, then uou cant get a DC extended care plus with wrap around coverage.

I know some friends with 1995's just got them, so it will be close for you.

Any dealer can sell, but shop around they really mark the profit up on them. I got a 51 month/51,000 mile DC extended care plus with wrap around for $2100.00 including tax.

Steve,

The only major job is the head gaskets. Even that if you pay someone will be $1,500-$1,800. As far as extended warranties they are almost $2,000 - if you can get one. I thought 94 is now no longer available to qualify for an extended warranty. Plus, isn't there a deuctible? I remember speaking with someone from Fitzgerald I believe who came highly recommended a few years ago. She said that no major work can be done anyway like head gaskets for the first few months anyway etc. This was to protect them against people buying warranties with existing problems wanting to rip off them.

Tranny's ($3000) and rear end ($2000) go out quite often and it you dont do your own work it can get expensive.

I was not allowed to buy mine until the local dodge dealer looked at the car and verified the mileage. Becomes active 3 days after date of purchase. There is a $50 dollar deductable per visit to dealer. Its basically an insurance policy. A friend of mine bought one for 95 RT, had tranny problem in first 5 weeks, got it replaced under warantee, bought new tires, blew rear end, got it replaced under warantee also.

Slithrin,
I think your prices are a tad bit inflated. What are people gonna do when warranties run out and/or they can't buy them because their cars are 15 years old?

Mabye/maybe not! I dont control the prices, vipers are not cheap either. I just checked, it had been a while since I priced them out.

Just got off phone with dealer:
New dealer list: T56 tranny $5900.00, best VCA dealer discount: $3800.00
tranny out of wreck viper: $1999.00.

Here is a rebuilt Dodge Viper T56 Six Speed Transmission on ebay for $1700.00 + $110.00 shipping = $1810.00. Plus the install book time @ $95/hr and you are pretty close to $3000.00 on a used rebuild, not new under warantee.

Sooooo!, how are my prices inflated??? One good repair under warantee you will get your money back. That has been my experience.

FRANK, high end car, high power sports car, It comes from the dealer in the "HIGH" catagory. have a HIGH price when it comes time to repair. Its called "TAX" and you have no choice, because you bought everyones dream car. I do most of my work myself, and i still have warrantys on everything just for the really expensive things. Every warranty i have purchased has returned 5 times the cost.

i daily drive a 98 vette twin turbo
i put on 25,000 miles a year because i love to drive every second of every day
$2000 warranty 6 year 60,000 mile

ROI (return on investment)
$4200 Tranny killed 2nd and 3rd with power shifts
$2300 Fuel pumps and sending units in both (two) tanks went bad
$3700 Rear end went south (oops) hehe

My warranty just ran out, and guess what, i will drop another 2,000 because i dont like to go into the dealer and put down my credit card.

Frank, if you dont have the cash to play the game, then by all means dont even try, you will end up homeless

Have you even checked on insurance on a daily driver viper in a big city like san francisco?

$541 a month just for insurance.. made me cry... and your worried about a one time investment every 6 years of $2000? I pay more in oil filters in 6 years. $5 a qt for oil, $2000 for tires every few months... come on man... get real

I guess I am just over cautious now. I have had a 94 now for about 4 years. Since I've had the car, I have had: Upper engine gaskets replaced, New transmission, half shafts, replaced under warranty. The current warranty more than paid for itself. Now with even more age on the car, I am even more conscirned with what may happen.

I drive the car hard, I don't beat it, but I do enjoy 100% of the car. I have shown up at the track with my car in the trailer and been asked "why dont you drive the car?" I have a trailer because I do drive the car. I can drive the car harder because I know I have a way home if I break it. I like to have the same assurance in the way of warranty work.

If the warranty has run out, and I can no longer get an extention, I will do all the work myself. I am no stranger to tools. I have all the tools (hand tools, air tools, lift, etc) to do the work myself, but why not let someone that has done the job before do it right (for free).

Frank, I agree with you $2000 is a lot, but, with the amount of work I have had done I am already financially ahead of the game.

I guess people around here have thousands to spend on warranties...enjoy! Two grand to me is alot regardless...

It is a lot, and I've never bought an extended warranty on anything but the viper, because just like insurance, it's a "bad deal" (i.e., the only way insurance, warranties can usually be sold is because on average, the seller will spend less than the amount paid, i.e., the buyer is betting they will have more problems than average). However, I bought it on my viper due to the extreme cost of things for it - I bought the 7yr/100k mile/$0 deductible warranty for ~$3k, and in the first year of coverage alone, I've had well over $10k in parts & labor covered. Quite a deal for me, and I've got 60k miles to go on it ;)

It is alot of cash and it depends how you drive the car. But I bought the car to drive hard, fast and enjoy. Not to be a garage queen and just take out and putt around on sunday afternoon with all the blue hairs after church.

So I expect things to eventually break, but really dont care, I pay the $50 Deductable and thats it. So if you going to keep the car and drive it hard, one good repair and you have broken even or even made money back. For me its a no brainer, buy the warantee and enjoy the car without worrying. DC will even let you make monthly payments on warantee for a year to pay for it.

Very well said... to expand, I think that warranties simply spread the cost over several people. Say 10 people spend $2000 on a warranty. DC makes $20k off the deal. Chances are favorable that they'll spend less than $20k fixing all ten cars. Of course, over time if they see that they spend more than that, the warranty rate will go up.

Personally, I'd rather ante up the $2k (which I did the first week I bought the car) rather than risk spending more than that on repairs. So far, nothing major. I've had a window adjusted, top adjusted, and trim repaired. I'll tell you this... I would NOT have taken it in for that kind of stuff without this warranty. Who would want to pay $500 to make the adjustments?

I'll buy peace of mind ANY day!
