I just got a speeding ticket in the new Viper a few minutes ago. First one in 17 years, if that. 86 in a 65, which was nuts, as I was in merging traffic all going 65 - 70. He even acknowledged I was behind a minivan the entire time he supposedly clocked me (laser) and said, "Well, that minivan was speeding too". I asked to see his radar calibration after he wrote the ticket and he could not provide it. Instead he just showed me the display on his radar gun. Whoopie. While it is "only" a $134 fine, I was NOT anywhere close to that speed. I will certainly fight it, as it is a bogus ticket and I also want to stay away from points on my license (and higher insurance rates). Otherwise this car may have to go... :(

Practically ill and with a wife in tears,

Chris

Do they allow traffic school in your area so that tickets don 't go on your record? If so let me know - I have a great online traffic school for you.

Fight it Chris. All it takes is that one ticket and your insurance rates go up.

Wait....that was today. I was just in the park with you. Most people do drive fast when they set next to my rumbling GTS!

We'll you can talk to the Supra boy Mark....Attorney...was at your house yesterday. Or Spencer will take care of you for $100 bucks cash + Fine.

Get this, we leave the park and some guy in a truck tries to run Greg off the road. Greg stops in the street in his RT/10 (road rage in the works). He pulls out his badge and gives the guy an ass chewing. We head down the street to Mr.Goodcents sub shop. Lotus and two Vipers sitting in the parking lot.

We sit down and four police cars pull up. The truck had gone to the police station and reported the incident. Once they realize Mr. Greg is a fellow officer they leave. Is this Miami Vice? How many cops drive Vipers....ha. Soon we will have another with Viper Mathew. That will be two Cops in the KC club.

Chris, do not pay that ticket! The points will kill you on insurance. If you need any attorney help let me know. Attorneys ****, but hey, I hang out with them :)

I believe someone else on this board beat you to the first speeding ticket.

Step 1. Get a good traffic lawyer. You were not that far over the limit so he or she may be able to either eliminate the ticket or reduce the points and have it changed to a lesser, non-speeding offense with a fine. Any points left after a reduction can then be quickly eliminated by going to traffic school for a day. When you speak to your lawyer be sure to go over the part where you note that even the officer acknowledged that you were following traffic moving faster than you and then singled you, the slower but more high profile car, out for a ticket.

Step 2. If you do not already have one get a V1. If you have one, did it warn at all?

Step 3. Get some form of laser jammer. Cops now realize that radar may have pretty much run its course as so many good detectors are now out there. Electronic warfare is now in its second phase. Step up. Go to ******'s website at http://www.escortradar.com/ and look at the ZR3 Laser Shifter. I like it because it offers front/rear laser jamming. You should also look into K40's legendary Blinder.

I know things look grim right now and you are questioning why you even drive this car if this is likely to be your fate but take heart. Relatively few people hire a lawyer and so end up either surrendering to the higher cost of driving or worse, ineffectively try to defend themselves. Do neither.

As an aside, discreetly check if your insurance company allows a certain number of points before they begin to penalize you.

Good luck.

Chris,

Just in case you don't get out of this, when I got my first ticket in the Viper, my insurance agent was able to put the ticket under the car that would show the least amount of increase (I insure three cars with them).

Yikes! That is why I keep telling my wife that when I get my Viper, a V1 is going to be the first after-market purchase!

Sorry to hear about your ticket Chris. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

Couldn't you also pay approx 2 times the fine and get it changed to non-moving violation in JO county? Also note that very few insurance co's run driving record history on a periodic basis. Nothing to brag about but I had 3 tickets in the last 2 yrs and I have yet to see my rates change.

In Indiana there is what's called a "diversion".....I got my first ticket in 33 years Christmas 2001...I went to the courthouse and filled out an application.....you pay the fine plus $40 court costs and if you have a good record(luckily I did)your ticket is pulled before the court date and you get a 6 mos probation....get another ticket and you get points for both, otherwise it never shows up anywhere....mine was for going thru a stop sign at 3mph in my Prowler at the corner of my own property....secluded, wooded neighborhood....real threat to the public here....ask about a "diversion" or anything like it your state may have !!! good luck....

Chris - I feel for ya...the first day in my first Viper (YELLOW 95), I was passed by a minivan that was speeding. I was doing 55 in a 55 zone. Cop was heading other direction, divided highway, a few bushes (large ones) in median. He U-turned, ran me down and ticketed me for 76 MPH. I and my passenger explained the minivan, but the cop wouldn't hear it.

I went to court, explained it to judge. GUILTY. I appealed, and lost the appeal (two months later). The judges didn't care about my witness. Not one bit.

I guess we all need to drive minivans if we don't want tickets! I knew those soccer moms had an angle...

Alternatively, next time use that "GO" pedal and lose the Crown Vic or Impala or whatever...there'll be a lot of pissed-off S2000 drivers getting pulled over if you do, though :)

George
