Re: Why are modified corvettes have faster ET\'s than Vipers with less HP

Neil,
Is your ZR1 actualy dyno tested to make 475hp or is that what the tunner told you it would make? Chevy has been telling people that the last ZR1's made 405hp, but they would only pull 320 to the wheels.
Now even if your ZR1 did pull that kind of power what was the torque? And besides Vipers come very under rated from the factory, and even stock make more than 475hp and at least 150lb's more torque than the ZR1.

Russ,
The zr1 was modified back in the early 90's. The tuner's(KIm Baker {Bakerracing}) package was the 475 hp and 415 tq. I have never put it on a dyno. But i have run consistent 1/4 miles in the 12.2-12.4 range at almost 120 mph (119.8 to be exact) with a 12.2 short time, and no power shifting, but quick off throttle shifts. The GTS does a little better than that, so i have experienced the fact that the GTS is underrated. I just can't figure out why the ZR1 runs away top end. I know it has a very flat power curve, and it will pull to red line and hit the limiter if one is not quick with the shifter. Funny thing is you feel the power in the GTS, it's just violent, where the Vette is smoother. I usually take both cars out in succession, and all i keep thinking is how in the world can the vette be faster (top end) than the GTS, when the GTS feels sooo much faster.
But they are both awesome cars.
In the end i guess you can figure out which car i prefer from looking at my signature. Once you experience a Viper i guess you're bitten, and no antidote in sight.
Have fun and be safe.
