Your argument is a valid one except for a few misleading things.

an 02 z06 will pull anywhere from 340-348 as seen on about a dozen of them at R&D Dyno.

And a stock viper pulls from 398-405 as seen on many on the same dyno. The problem with dyno jets is repeatability, and you really need to compare on the same dyno with the most accurate setup on the software.

Besides all that you should be comparing average hp across the power band, in which case the Viper just plain blows away any z06.

What everyone doesn't understand, especially the z06 guys is the torque curve. Look how much SOONER the MASSIVE TORQUE of a viper compares the the same RPM of the vette. Look at how much torque the Viper has at 3500 RPM vs the Z06 at 3500 RPM. Not knowing the figures, I'd love to see them..

Another biggie missed: Gearing. Z06 has better gearing, which helps out in the observed "lack of torque" vs. the Viper.

I've asked this question before and never had a good answer. Let's say your Viper has 10% drivetrain loss. That's 40 to 50 horsepower lost to the friction in the drivetrain at full power, right? It must be turned into heat, right? How much heat is 40 to 50 horsepower? If you do the numbers it turns out to be 37,000 watts. I guess if you figure it must go to the transmission, rear gears, u-joints and bearings, it must be distributed over a number of components and no one component has to dissipate all of it. Still, it always seemed like a large number of kilowatts being dissipated by components that are generally designed, in the stock Viper, with no special cooling system. What component has the greatest loss? Can these components really be dissipating that much heat? Let's figure this out.

Stats don't mean squat! All that counts is what happens in the real world. And that's a Z06 getting smaller in the rear view mirror!

That is exactly what I'm saying. Do you want to race dynos or cars. Few of these big number cars ever show up to post an et or MPH, which is the real world indicator of performance. My RWHP is 422. Haven't been beat by a 470 RWHP dyno racer yet.

Not that it matters but I seem to recall Sean Roe doing a pull with an engine out of the car and taking the same engine and pulling it in a car. 12% loss was seen ( I am assuming conditions were similar). Just thought I'd add more fuel...
Oh, people like FWHP because it is BIGGER! Agreed on being meaningless, but people like their 450HP Viper vs their actual 412HP Viper. AHHH vanity!

while your right that rwhp is more important than flywheel hp. you have lost sight of the more important factor in the equation of power to weight ratio. that being torque. you see hp is a estimate derived from torque. time and distance being the governing factors. therefore all analysis of power to weight ratio should be based on torque. HORSEPOWER WINS CARS SHOWS - TORQUE WINS RACES.
