Why not a V1 remote signal unit?

I don't get it. Valentine has a main unit and a remote display. It requires you to place the main unit on your dash, windshield or mirror and the remote unit typically near steering wheel or something.

Now, it is relatively small but I drive around and look at this stupid box on my dash. All it accomplishes (being in that location) is sending and picking up signals in an optimum location. It looks stupid though even with the wires concealed.

Why don't they make a remote signal transmitter? All it would do it send and receive signals...then transmit back to the main unit. The remote unit could be very small and mount to the mirror and not look so dorky. About the size of a cigarette lighter and all wires could be hidden.

I agree.

for people who have to have everything right (like me) it would be a pain.

the higher up and most central(with a clear view) is the best location for the radar/laser warning reciever. i think that putting it low(in a bumper or grill) would certianly limit performance. the higher up it it the better chance you have of getting a signal from farther away.

exactly why I don't have a radar detector, they look like crap in the car, I'd rather just watch my speed on the interstate...

SylvanSRT, I still want it up near the windshield where it gets the best signal...I just want it to be a smaller remote unit, even hardwired, but MUCH smaller. You could route the wire out of view around the mirror. If all it did was send and receive the signals, couldn't it be somthing either than the entire freakin main unit?

do you have the concealed display unit and/or hardwire kit it move the display (much smaller) to either the lighter plug or where ever you put the remote display.

SylvanSRT, I think the entire concept is *** backwards. Why have the entire unit up on the dash, then have a remote unit wire down to somewhere less annoying.

They should have the main unit (with all the arrows and sounds) be able to be placed anywhere you want it. If there is enough room, right on the steeing shaft. Then, have a hardwire remote unit about 1" x 1" that mounts to your rearview mirror and the wire is concealed by the wondow trim.

Wouldn't that look nice and and the remote unit could be small since it only has to pick up and send signals.

I also have the V1 with the concealed display. I would love sensors I could permanently stick to my windhield and back window and just run wires to the display.

As it is I have trouble getting the suction cups to stay stuck and I can never seem to get the unit out of the mount without the mount coming off of the windshield. Once my hardtop comes in I will feel better about leaving it up though.

They have remote kits for V1 although they are not through the factory but they work great and conceal everything. You can even have the screen built into the rear view mirror.

My main unit is on the visor and the stealth unit down below. The visor mount gives great front and rear coverage and is only noticable from outside the car if one looks really hard to find it. In that position, it's as close to the windshield as with the suction cup mount and a whole lot more stable.

I use the suction cup windshield mount i the viper and leave the windshield mound up all the time and only take down the unit. to 95viper my guess is the recieving antanae are bigger than 1" x 1" or they would have just made the V1 unit smaller, they have proven how small they can make the concealed display and or the remote display. you have to remember that you have an antanae(4 of them i think) that faces all four directions for radar and another two sensors(antanae) for the laser detection. The idea behind the concealed display is to put the lights in better view of the driver and or to not "tip off" other drivers around you when they see your detector going off. in the viper i like where the unit sticks to the windshield left of the rearview mirrow and is in perfect view when i see it go off, and the car is low enough that other drivers do not see it from outside the car, i dont use the remote or concealed display in the viper. I still cannot figure out what issues you are really having the problem with. Like mentioned earlier the best placement for the optimum reception of laser/radar signals is as high up and the most central you can place the unit in the car. placing the unit "on the dash" will limit its ability to detect signals from as far away as possible. Someday it may be possible to make all the antanae for all four directions and for several different types of source much smaller it just might not be possible or cost effective now.

SylvanSRT, I want what Kenny says above, the big main unit not up on the windshield.

ACR Steve, Where are these remote kits? I've seen the rearview mirror display but that isn't a remote antenna.
