Woodhouse doesn\'t win, but is leading the pts. after 2nd Race!

If my math is correct, after two races , Bob Woodhouse is leading the World Challenge Series. He had a strong finish , not the win, and both McCann and Pilgrim ended up behind him. Heh, I am doing a pretty good job at staying restrained , but the race will be shown tommorrow at 3 pm EST, for those that want to see Snakes slithering through the streets of St. Petersburg!!

Other Viper Pilots do well , also!!!!

Speed Channel, Sunday, April 2nd.

Excitedly Submitted,
Bill Pemberton

You beat me to it Bill. Here is what I posted at the Alley...

Don't read if you don't wanna know the outcome.

Not a great day for the Vipers but not a disaster either, except for McCann and Archer.

For starters, only two Vipers qualified in the top ten - Archer(2) and Woodhouse (10)

For some reason McCann started 26 of 27. There was no QT listed so I suspect he wasn't able to run qualifying. When the green dropped he was charging fast picking up 8 or so positions within a couple laps. But then he somehow tapped the front right (I think against a Porsche) and came into the pits for a tire change and fender repair putting him a lap down. The remainder of the race he stayed out of the leader's way and finished for points.

Archer got into the back of Leighton Reese. Archer made a move to the inside for a right-hander and ended up tapping Reeses right rear quarter spinning him out. It was hard to tell if Reese braked earlier than Archer expected or if Archer's car wasn't handling quite like he wanted. Anyway, Archer wasn't the same afterwards and with a busted nose started losing positions. He ended up with mechanical problems.

Bob Woodhouse started 10th and finished 5th. :2tu: Made some terrific moves and settled comfortably into 7th for most of the race. I didn't see where or how he moved to 5th but that's a great job! Big congrats to Woodhouse. Looks like last year's monkey is off his back.

Rob Foster (12) finished 7th and Lenny Diller(11) finished 10th to round out the three Vipers in the top ten. Not bad. Only two Vettes finished in the top ten.

Skip Sauls(17)(15) and McCann(26)(17) were the remaining Vipers running at the end.

Along with Archer, Derek Burseth and Adel Elsayed also left with mechanical problems.

The racing was excellent but with just a few laps to go the three frontrunners were suddenly able to put a lot of distance between them. Dunno if it's sandbagging or not. Supposedly rules changes reduced much of that from happening.

Saw Danika Bratrick. [this section edited for the VCA} Walking along with an entourage of "her people" surrounding her like she thinks she some bigshot. She probably won't even finish tomorrow.

SpeedTV is replaying the GT race at 3pm Sunday. I'm thinking passing on my IRL tix so I can watch the GT race again on TV.

Australian Grand Prix live tonight on Speed 10:30 EST. Good thing NASCAR doesn't run that late or F1 would get preempted.

McCann at the end of the last race (which he won) was too light and was below minimum weight...as a result he had to start at the back this time.

Well, since I can't figure out the points system, I screwed up and Bob is third in the points, just a bit behind Pilgrim. Laschenbach, who won the St. Petersburg Race, is in the lead now --- my bad, I was just a bit excited when I posted, sorry.

Good to see the Viper at the finish, but the rest of the coverage looked like a Cadillac commercial.

You know, all Dodge would have to do is buy a couple of TV ads during the race coverage (very cheap, btw) and the Vipers would get more of the talk they deserve (vs. the Caddys) ...

Actually Bob must have passed his bad luck off on the Woodhouse SRT-4 running in the touring class. That vehicle took a licking on the start of the Touring race

Re: Woodhouse doesn\'t win, but is leading the pts. after 2nd Race!

Congrats Bob - Finally watched the race last night.

I have no idea what happened with Archer, from the sidelines it was like he wasn't even paying attention. I felt bad for the vette, he didn't deserve that whack. McCann spun out too and took another viper with him. Bob was the insult to injury - the announcers spent so much time reviewing the two viper screw-ups (not to mention the new cadillacs) that they didn't even give proper mention that Bob was running 4th on that last lap.

For those who missed the race I wrote down all the dialog. I'm not a professional, just writing what I heard.

"Street track not a lot of room to pass but even though the caddy's are really heavy they should do alright.
...
When the red lights go out its a race - and the caddy's got a great start so did the blue car.
...
A viper hits the vette, but great driving kept the caddy's out of harms way.
...
For those who don't know the new Porsche 997 (seen here) is exactly like the old Porsche except for the headlights are turned 3 degrees inward.
...
Oh no, one of the caddy's is in trouble! It just stopped working! Lets see the replay. We'll send the reporters down to ask what happened after the break.
...
Andy Pilgrim, caddy driver extraordinaire, great husband and father, not mention bunny lover just passed three cars on a straightway, lets see that in slow motion. Lets see it again. Oh yeah that's an award winning pass right there. We'll replay it again later.
...
Two vipers spun out in one of the turns.
...
The caddys are in for another great season, but wait! Oh no! Not again!Andy's caddy died for no apparent reason in the turn. Oh the humanity!! Was it the bumpy track, did god smite Pilgrim for being unworthy, did the flux capacitor stop fluxing? Lets go to our scientists to find out why.
...
4th place viper just got passed...
...
Porsche wins the race, but what about those caddies today, man did they shine in the sun or what. Even though they both just stopped working in the middle of the race, Cadillac spent millions in design and hundreds of thousands of man-hours ironing out the details..."
...
End Credits
...
Caddy commercial.
