Re: Woodhouse doesn\'t win, but is leading the pts. after 2nd Race!
You beat me to it Bill. Here is what I posted at the Alley...
Don't read if you don't wanna know the outcome.
Not a great day for the Vipers but not a disaster either, except for McCann and Archer.
For starters, only two Vipers qualified in the top ten - Archer(2) and Woodhouse (10)
For some reason McCann started 26 of 27. There was no QT listed so I suspect he wasn't able to run qualifying. When the green dropped he was charging fast picking up 8 or so positions within a couple laps. But then he somehow tapped the front right (I think against a Porsche) and came into the pits for a tire change and fender repair putting him a lap down. The remainder of the race he stayed out of the leader's way and finished for points.
Archer got into the back of Leighton Reese. Archer made a move to the inside for a right-hander and ended up tapping Reeses right rear quarter spinning him out. It was hard to tell if Reese braked earlier than Archer expected or if Archer's car wasn't handling quite like he wanted. Anyway, Archer wasn't the same afterwards and with a busted nose started losing positions. He ended up with mechanical problems.
Bob Woodhouse started 10th and finished 5th.
Made some terrific moves and settled comfortably into 7th for most of the race. I didn't see where or how he moved to 5th but that's a great job! Big congrats to Woodhouse. Looks like last year's monkey is off his back.
Rob Foster (12) finished 7th and Lenny Diller(11) finished 10th to round out the three Vipers in the top ten. Not bad. Only two Vettes finished in the top ten.
Skip Sauls(17)(15) and McCann(26)(17) were the remaining Vipers running at the end.
Along with Archer, Derek Burseth and Adel Elsayed also left with mechanical problems.
The racing was excellent but with just a few laps to go the three frontrunners were suddenly able to put a lot of distance between them. Dunno if it's sandbagging or not. Supposedly rules changes reduced much of that from happening.
Saw Danika Bratrick. [this section edited for the VCA} Walking along with an entourage of "her people" surrounding her like she thinks she some bigshot. She probably won't even finish tomorrow.
SpeedTV is replaying the GT race at 3pm Sunday. I'm thinking passing on my IRL tix so I can watch the GT race again on TV.
Australian Grand Prix live tonight on Speed 10:30 EST. Good thing NASCAR doesn't run that late or F1 would get preempted.
