We’ve all raced a lot of them, if anybody has a stock early GenII that consistently beats stock creampuffs, I haven’t heard about it. “Stock” meaning BONE stock.

I sure do like that bumpy cam though.

If I were gonna go to the trouble you’re describing I would build the whole motor, or at least port the heads. But I live by a general rule of thumb “once you start wrenching an engine you end up wrenching it every weekend.” In other words, if it aint broke don’t fix it.

The lift and duration are pretty much the same, just the valve overlap changed which is mainly why the older cams have a rougher idle.

I asked the same question some time ago and the logical response I got is that if you're going to spend the money and time to install a new camshaft, might as well get an aftermarket one with better lift/duration.

I believe the creampuffs have different lifters as well which also help to smooth out the idle. Not sure if this also equates to a performance loss.

Someone else probably knows this for sure, but I don't think the T&D kits include lifters, springs or pushrods. I think the kit comes with the rockers, shaft mounts and shims only. The stock lifters are roller type I believe.

I think if I was going to change the cam, I would simply do a bigger cam.

Of course what cam to use...

I don't know about OBDII, but you may get into MISFIRES due to rough idle. Not to mention a potential idle change and VE change. (I don't know if VE [Volumetric Efficiency] is used in Vipers, but it is used in LS1's.)

install a '99 cam in my '00 GTS.
Would a '97 cam have more lift or should I say longer lift duration (not sure of all the tech terminology)than the '99.
Is this a logical thing to do.
Also, with the T&D roller rocker kits, would this include roller lifters?
I'm not a tech, but I have a little mechanical knowledge.
My car is parked in my garage for the winter, so I have too much time to think about this kind of stuff I guess.
I would greatly appreciate some input from some of you please.
Thank you,

Only if you want the rough idle - which isn’t necessarily a bad reason to swap. The performance difference between GenIIs is negligible if any.

just kidding around, you don't think it's worth considering then, unless I want the rough idle?
What about the T&D Roller rockers question then?

Actually Bigfoot brings up a good question. I have read all the threads about the creampuff cams (like mine) and the hot cams (66degrees of duration).

Has anybody actually done the swap? If so before an after dyno numbers?

I figure if I was going to change the cam I would look into some aftermarket cams.
