You've got quite a stash of cylinders there!
Well, I got rid of my 6cylinder car (the Porsche 996tt) but the V-8 is a 74 Pantera (one-owner 'til I got it, sent it to Roush for subtle things, still considered 'stock') and the 12 is an 84 Ferrari 512 Berlinetta Boxer (very late injected car).
Both are mid-engined cars of course which is why the Viper is a very different machine for me. I haven't had an engine in the front of a performance car for awhile (does my Tundra count? I think not!)
New tires are on their way. So be watching ebay for, "7 year old Michelins Made Entirely of Black Porcelain" which may get bids due to such rarity!
Have a great weekend... mine'll partly be spent under the Viper hood cleaning things and I can't wait!

LOL--I'm with Jay on your Black Porcelain tires...VERYVERY funny stuff!!! I will greatly be enjoying your posts...AND loving your CARS...GREAT taste, man!!!! A PANTERA and a 512???? WOWWWWW....we've GOTTA see pics of all your cars together, the Tundra too if it complains loudly~~yes, I see you will need to get used to another sort of BEAST altogether, after having mid-engines...you are used to power, that I see...but with those tires, yeah, before them being replaced...just be very careful on them, as I'm sure you will be. Thank you and same with you on the weekend...sometimes there's nothing BETTER to do THAN be with a Viper...we plan on it!!!! ~juli

You people are tempting the absurd! A burn out until meltdown... $5 bucks says 70 seconds... hmmm. "I SEE VIDEO MEMORIES" Oh shoot, forgot I was a responsible father of 15 year old.

Maybe I get him to do the filming under the auspices of, "Here son, this is what you really definitely do not want to do - ever never - while you're behind the wheel of a car with an irresponsible amount of horsepower and this is just to teach a lesson since I'm a good lesson teacher person." <<CLUTCH ENGAGES, BOILING ENSUES, SMOKE ENGULFS CAMERA, COUGHING OF RAYON SMOKE MAKES CAMERA JUDDER>>

Perhaps a training film for his high school? In Alabama I can probably get state funding. (Please, no redneck jokes. I'm sensitive!)

My insurance person just demanded Viper photos as well (imagine that) so I'll take some Sunday and post like a crazy person. I don't know if this board cares too much about the other cars, but they'll be in the background with my new playmate featured!

As promised - and DEMANDED (!) by this enthusiastic club - I had an hour before sunset to snap a few shots. I'm no photographer, so this car is WAY better looking in real life

Photo #1 is my WAY too small and kinda ***** garage (put to shame by so many others here) I never took the cover off the Viper's stablemate.

Photo #2 is in front of a church (ours) right near our house. Great park, brick streets and all that. My version of picturesque.

Great pictures! You need to take it to a meeting with your wife and meet some fellow Viper owners.:) Hide the keys from the teenager....:D

My vote is still for smoky burnout picture before replacing tires.
In unison...smoky burnout, smoky burnout.

Welcome!
Panteras are cool :2tu: and was my other choice before I got the Viper. Came down to 70's vs. 90's technology as a starting platform, but I'd still like to get one someday.

Oh, and yeah, it is mandatory to do a smokey burnout with your old tires and get a picture of it to post. I know they didn't do that on the Porsche boards, but you own a Viper now and it is kinda expected ....

Welcome to the VCA, I'm sure you'll enjoy your Viper experience quite a bit.... as long as you stay on THIS side of things. There's another site.. the ViperAlley but thats for a different crowd. :D :buttkick:
Great car and yes you must get a nice smoky burnout pic or vid before the old tires come off. And if the cabin heat becomes an issue hi flow or no cats along with a 3in cat back exhaust will take care of that and free up some more HP. :2tu:
Enjoy.

First off, love your username. I haven't been to the other site (the 'dark side'?) and don't plan to since I have enough distractions in my life. Making a video of my smoky burnout is another thing on the 'to do' list! (I'll be out of town when my tires get installed, so that may not happen.)

Now that you mention the hi-flow cats and cat back exhaust, you've got me looking. I thought I'd do hi flow cats and delete the rear muffler (but install an "H" pipe). I realize this subject has been fully exhausted (HA!) on this site, but if you have personal experience or advice, I'd love it.

Thanks to all!

Couple questions - My Michelin PS2s are the originals, and with the LEAST provocation in a turn I can break the rear loose. The tires are CLOSE but not to the wear bars, pressure is 22 (a bit low, but still...) Once the car is hooked, it hangs fine, but my right foot is having to 'retrain' itself in a late apex throttle. No kidding, I'd be a little nervous driving in the rain.

Is this normal? Are PS2s this way? Has 7 years hardened the tires to the point of becoming ice skates?

First up, CONGRATS!

Next, original was Pilot Sports, not PS2s, those didn't exist until 2003 (If memory serves me right). I have a 2001 and the originals were Pilot Sports. if you have PS2s, they are less than 7 years old..check the production week/year on the sidewall of each tire to confirm when it was made.

In optimium conditions I would expect a safe tire life of 6 years regardless of mileage, especially on a high performance car.

Next, 22 pounds is WAY too low, try 32 pounds, that will help the tires grip more (too little air and there is insufficient tensions between the sidewalls (across the tread area) to get full traction from the tire (you are riding a wee bit on 'rails', so, that's why so easy to break loose, you are not use much of the tire's 'footprint')

New tires will really make a huge difference, I totally recommend it.
