Hi all,

I'm a first time Viper owner to be. On the hunt for a 2001 or 2002 GTS with low mileage and either no mods or just bolt ons with stock parts still available and included with the car.

I'm located in the PNW but will to consider a car from anywhere in the country given we can spend time going over the car's condition in detail and can get a third party inspection done prior to purchase.

I'm all ears and eyes - Let me know the details of what you've got and what you want for it.

Thanks in advance!

Danny

Danny,

When I was shopping for a Viper, I checked up to 10 sites daily. Most sellers advertise on multiple, but I didn't want to miss the car that might be posted to just one site. So, I checked Cars.com, Autotrader.com, Carfax.com, Cargurus.com, Carsforsale.com, ISeeCars.com, TrueCars.com, Hemmings.com, DupontRegistry.com, ClassicCars.com and Ebay.com. There is also Auto.com now. Cars.com is my favorite site, since they provide the best set of info up front. You are provided a Picture, Year, Make, Model, subModel, Price, Mileage, Seller, Seller Phone, Distance from Seller, Exterior Color, Interior Color. Autotrader.com and Cargurus.com provide all of the above except interior color, thus requiring an extra step to find it. Carfax.com and Carsforsale.com also leave off the Seller Phone. I ended up buying both of my Vipers from Ebay.com. Not the way I expected it to go, but it worked out well for me. I'm guessing you want anti-lock brakes and the original body style as I also limited my search to 2001 & 2002.

In case you are not all that savvy with browsers, I should have mentioned that checking 10 sites daily is quite easy to do. You just open a separate tab for each site and click the refresh for each tab each day or evening before doing your check. BTW, I never thought to check Craig's List, but several have found decently priced Vipers on Craig's list. Also, there is a Facebook group (Dodge Viper Owners and All Viper Clubs Member's Site) that has a page for posting up Viper and Viper parts and accessories for sale. BTW, the Viper Owners Association and Viper Club of America each have a Facebook group as well. You will see For Sale ads posted there as well. Good luck!

Sorry I didn’t reply to your first post - Really appreciate the advice! I’m actually doing exactly what you’ve suggested. I have a search in Autotrader, Autotrader Classics, CarGurus, TrueCar, eBay and Craigslist in a few cities. Gotta be patient and diligent!

There are a few other cosmetic touches detailed below: The Final Edition represent the last 360 cars built on the 2002 Dodge Viper platform, will be the first production Vipers to wear a Viper red with dual stone white striped paint scheme. The white over red theme was the same one that carried the Viper GTS-R/T race car to motorsports acclaim with an outright win at the 2000 Daytona 24-hour sports car racing event and consecutive American Le Mans Series manufacturers championships.
In addition to the special paint striping, a number of other details distinguish the GTS Final Edition. Inside, red-stitched, black leather steering wheel and shift knob are unique to the model, with a sequentially numbered dash plaque (e.g. No. 1 of 360) recognizing each individual car from the series.

Autotempest.com

Saves you from having too many tabs open lol

You'll see a ridiculous amount of markups though, better off negotiating a private. If I see some dealer selling for $50k I can only imagine how little the seller got from them, so if you find someone trying to sell you can do one better than a dealer in terms of how much the sellers gets along with you paying less than the markup, in other words both individuals benefit.

Agreed on Searchtempest, very helpful site. The big websites (Cars.com, Autotrader) also allow you to save a search with your specific criteria and get email updates when a new listing matches them. I still ended up checking those sites daily anyway, but it gave me peace of mind knowing I'd be alerted the moment a new car hit the market.

This thread can be discontinued. Based on limited availability of Vipers Dan was interested in and not wanting to wait, he bought another rear wheel, two seat sports car. Vipers are difficult to wait for, as we all know. So many people buy to buy and then wish they knew more or waiting before buying.

So Dan is out of the market......
