Anyone have a drivers ed or race car they are looking to part with? I checked the classifieds and they are quite dead.

If you have a lead, drop me a mail.

There is a big difference, for starters, one you can drive to the track and the other you can't. Race cars aren't usually DIY projects unless you have a LOT of time to devote to it and have tools, tech expertise, etc. If you have had neither, start with a nicely prepped DE car, drive it to the track and have fun. Its generally a safer environment (due to passing rules, etc), although DE cars don't have full cages & fuel cells. You can drive any Viper in a DE, or any car for that matter. Some are going to be at the front of the pack and some not. Its a lot of fun to start at the back of the pack and work your way up in a 'lesser' powered car. Just my 2c.

I agree with this as well.

I will say most Vipers I see at the track require a lot of modification in order to run well for 2 days straight, especially if you are in adv or instructor run groups.

I disagree. I instruct and run in the adv groups in our local track days. Although I have had the rear end go out. Really (knock on wood) that's the only thing large I have had happen to my car on the track in 3 years and 20 plus track days. And really I have spent less than $1500 in repairs on my Viper DO TO TRACK DAYS in the three years. Vipers are pretty tough.

My GEN I viper is 15 years old has mods: K&N, smooth tubes, Kumho V700 tires, Tom's brake upgrade and EBC yellows. And it's a pretty reliable and fast track machine.

Here's some Video of my track machine at work:

Playing with a 2004 Porsche GT3
Porsche GT3 VS Viper- Video

Playing with A C6 Z06
Viper VS C6 Z06 at HPT- Video

Playing with a Supercharged elise etc.
Last HPT Roadwarriors 2007- Video

Many more:

If that is the case, then the Vipers you see must be not very well prepped for the track. What modifcations are you speaking of that are required to run well for two track days in a row?

I take it by 'run well' she means at the head of the pack. The competition is pretty stout at most events these days, and you benefit several seconds per lap from brakes and suspension mods.

My car certainly runs well then and it has been bullet proof the past 5 years as well. I guess having some good luck with a well-prepped car is the ticket.

yes brakes and susp. hey I think that's awsome if you can track a stock Viper and get some good lap times, I don't track mine obviously just commented on what I have seen.

I instruct with PCA, so we don't see a LOT of Vipers that's for sure, only run with them at Viper days.
If there are 'other' cars they are usually mazda's, corvettes and a mustang or two.
