They were fitted new in 2004 with the car at 0 miles, no valve damage, all close and seal perfectly, had a look inside.
I suppose the fact that the inner springs are all intact saved the engine

There was another thread of someone breaking some aftermarket valve springs. Then this thread makes you wonder......

I guess th the V10 is non interference :dunno:
God I hope so if this is going to turn into another window regulator common issue. That's alot of broken springs in that motor. When do we start pulling our valve covers at regular intervals to check this?

I was thinking the same thing. There is nothing NORMAL about this. This is an extremely high failure rate to say the least!

The worst thing is, I only found out when changing my valve covers, and I only thought I had one spring gone
lucky I have a borescope, looked inside all the cylinders, all valves ok and hold pressure when connected
to an airline

I think they might be broken.

I think...maybe.

But damn, 4 springs? Is the V10 so indestructible it can break itself and keep running like that? There was no noise, anything, what so ever that indicated they were like that until you looked inside?

as built at the factory and the broken springs were OEM ??...OR...that someone swapped the springs while making modifications before driving the car...as is sometimes the case with a purpose built race car. Just curious.

As you know, to try to hear anything over the exhaust is a result, and yes they might be broken, but I have superglue which will
bring them back to new, and I will
offer them for sale at a later date

Steve-Indy, The car had the RSI 750 package done, the car was trailered to them from the factory, its a stroked 520 jobby

I have seen total valve spring failure in another car...SVS "modified" Gen I...and, in that case, ALL primary and secondary valve springs were found to be broken at "motor autopsy"...noting it did "make noise" at that point, but was still "drivable". Unfortunately, no one could tell which/how many springs failed in what order.

SO THE BOTTOM LINE IS .......Anyone who has had an RSI Package fitted, (with aftermarket valve springs) should check their Valve Springs ASAP! :omg:

I wouldnt apportion blame to anybody, they didnt make the springs, they are 10 years old,
I suppose i am just unlucky but lucky...

Mark, please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that there were two "iterations" of the "RSI" company...early and now. From what I have observed via the experiences of Members and other friends, their products differ considerably. As I recall, there was a brand new 2004 Viper owned by a friend who sent it to the "early" RSI to be fitted with a supercharger. As the owner finally took delivery (in about 5-6momths), the Viper blew its S/C belt as it was started just after coming off the RSI trailer delivery trailer at the 2004 V10 Nationals at Beech Bend (KY). LOTS of $$$$$$$$$ blown on that deal.

Folks,

There was nothing stock about this engine...when you build a motor and put a healthy cam in it, you also have to upgrade to aftermarket valve springs, which those are (stock cars don't come with dual spring setups). If you have a stock engine, you don't have to worry about it. Period.

This kinda thing happens for one of two reasons: bad parts choices, or bad installation (maybe both). I'd be pulling the heads to make sure there were no damaged valves or pistons. I'd think that the smaller inner springs wouldn't do a good job of controlling the valve if you let 'er rip when those springs were broken (and it doesn't appear that you know when it happened).
