It has been the policy of this site ever since I've been a member here that street racing stories are not allowed. This concept is starting to take hold on other car forums too. At least one other sports car forum that I frequent does not allow them either.

I am also probably one of the very few who agree w/ the policy. at least this site has _some_ principles... not that you have to agree with them but at least they have 'em!

Yes, and that shows this is a "newer" policy. Otherwise there would not be any of these argumentative posts of which you speak. I just don't get the policy. It reminds me of paraphenalia shops selling bongs as "tobacco water pipes." Whatever. There have probably been a 100 threads on the various forums here about Viper vs. Zo6 bench racing, but you cannot post about a real world encounter with one because that might be like saying a **** is for smoking ***. Duh - big surprise there.

No, it has been policy since Day 1. As a moderator going back several years I distinctly remember both Tony and myself editing and sometimes deleting street racing posts. We would usually leave those posts that referenced a "closed course" - even a few from this year. The reason is potential liability.

Let's say that you could post street racing as much as you like. Might not be a big deal on a forum where there is no organized club behind it. But when this site is paid for, hosted, and branded by an incorporated entity, there is more of a gray area. Somebody wrecks their Viper - or maybe even a Supra that was racing a Viper. Somebody is seriously injured or killed. "But the Viper Club encourages that kind of a thing!" the survivor tells their attorney. Uh oh.

Years ago as a regional president I got a call from an attorney representing the estate of a Viper owner killed driving his Viper. He wanted to know if the guy was attending a VCA-related event or meeting. And you know why - money. Fortunately (for our region) the gentlemen was from another region. I notified the National office to give them a heads up and don't know what, if anything ever came from it. But it definitely gave me a scare.

So which is better? Moderating "kill" posts or subjecting the club, its officers, and others to potential legal action? It has nothing to do with being ***** about street racing. If you own a Viper chances are superb that you have engaged in one or more yourself. But it has everything to do with "endorsing" it on a public forum. And that is why it has always been policy here.

It would appear you may have been indulging in both practices to have come up with that little analogy. While both practices are illeagal I have not recently heard of anyone maimed, killed or made into a life long vegetable, well maybe the latter, by a ****.
Check the Hogan thread, it is a particularly inaproppriate and insensitive time to be making a whining response to a removal of this type. And it has ALWAYS been policy here since about 1998 when I arrived on these shores, I note you re a relative newcomer so you cannot have known that, but you assumed it. You know about that word I presume.
Has it always been enforced uniformly? Perhaps not. Should it be? Honestly, I dunno. There are varying degrees in these threads and some are really scary and some seem tame. There is always the issue of legal liability hanging over everyone these days and anyone wanting to advertise their own foolishness with pictures or video on the web for the future edification ot the local constabulary is beyond foolish at best and should be thankfull for the removal of such tomfoolery for their own protection. Kill someone with your car and try and come back and edit out something like that and you will find your edit authority expired looong ago.
`I did not see this one but my fellow moderator (that guy up higher in the thread with the bumblebee) did and made a decision, he is by no means a wuss behind the wheel I can assure you as we are in the same Region, and you are close to being in default of another rule if you want to keep complaining about it.

"Posts asking why a post was removed, and posts asking why a warning/strike/ban was or was not issued to a user will be subject to deletion. If a post was removed, a moderator felt it violated one of the policies. But it is the rule at the time and it is within a moderators discretion to remove such threads."

1) I've had my attorney license for over 12 years now, including some unhappy time as an isnurance defense litigator, and while I personally think the "possible liability" claim is nonsense, I can understand others' fears. I do things in my career now like have to read 100 page leases that are that long because we spend 90 pages trying to hedge against any possible claim that might be made in a litigation later so I understand that some folks would like to try and weave a cocoon around them in hopes of avoiding any trouble.

2) Please don't ever accuse me of doing drugs. I don't. That's that. I take offense, but that is my problem.

3) I'm an outlaw on this sight so apparently I have no room to talk, but I think the "other" sight is sophomoric and not serious enough so I'll just continue to be a hermit that owns a Viper because it was the funnest, most effective car I could afford.

4) If you drive a C6 Z06 in North Scottsale be prepared for a smackdown. I'll just have to keep the results to myself and go to bed with a smile.

Site member for seven years with 2 posts in the last year (this was your second) and eight posts in the year before that. Oh, and only one (1) street racing post ever (vs. a Supra).

It is not a newer policy no matter how long you have been here. Here is a classic debate about it (and creating a "kill" section) from over six years ago:

Arguments are still good on both sides, but the fact remains that it has ALWAYS been a policy here. And I agree with Martin: Go to the Alley and you can post all the "kill" stories you like. Mind you, he has started only two threads over there in almost 4 years (neither of which are kill stories) but he does have the goods to back it up (Hennessey 1000).

hmm... I am sure I posted more, or made reference to my street racing in other posts. But hell.. as I get older my memory seems to be fading. On the other hand, I used to bench race and actually give a damn about how fast my car was. Nowadays - I drive the Venom about 30 miles a month. Although my love for the car remains the same. I have over 70k miles on her - I think she deserves a rest! Whatever you do people.. Keep it safe.
