There is a difference between "having something in mind" and building intentionally for it. Even if it is technically a forged part and has a decently stong design, a 10:1+, flat top, short skirt, large quench piston design sitting on top of a PM rod is NOT an ideal forced induction design...
And they were also charging additional money for this. If THAT was the case, sure, I would entertain the idea as I am sure they will be fine for reasonable package levels. But, to do it for free makes no business sense unless its being built into the cost anyway. I am trying to keep costs down...
This is generally correct, yes. The problem is that Gen-4 appears to have a wider acceptable tolerance level with regard to strength. Some guys have no problems, while many others have issues that pop up for no apparent reason, especially on the track.
TrackAire is right on the money. There are MANY levels of forged pistons, which is just a process, not a design or even a material. The Gen-5 pistons were "forged" because they were tired of having Gen-4 engines fall apart on the track, and trust me, there were many. I have about 100 Gen-4...
No matter how you slice it, it is warrantying something that we technically did not build, nor have any way of inspecting. A warranty is based on the assumption that money made will greatly exceed the risk of having to repair the product that you sold. In the case of a basic installation, there...
-Its not that the quality of what we are doing will be less, it is that certain quality aspects, such as pistons, we cannot control if they are original. Plainly put, I cannot warranty parts for an extended period which are already a known weakness in the overall scope of the engine design, and...
LOL, have you ever had the feeling you are under a microscope? :rolaugh:
-We are in the middle of producing the production version of the controller, which as you can imagine is the key to making this all work. It has already been tested for functionality in prototype form. We already have...
It will not work in an application like this. The crank and cam triggers are far more complex than most of those types of units would be able to handle, and that is just the start. The crank and cam trigger edges, which would be utilized to offset the ignition timing control, are also used for...
You are far oversimplifying the problem, and forgetting the fact that the VENOM controller is an integral part of the BUS communications of damn near a dozen other modules in the car. Everything from climate control to airbags and all of the dash functions.
If you just want to run the ENGINE...
Uh... Bob... where have you been? We are right in the middle of developing exactly what you are asking for. LOL
I have ZERO doubt at this point that a Gen-5 package will be following our Gen-4 release...
Crack is a relative term. I can "crack" an ECU by simply using an SMD rework station to remove and replace the Flash memory and processor- it would then be "blank" and nothing more than hardware. The problem is having the user interface and software/firmware to tune it. Those are massively...
Hey Jack,
I also recently spoke to SCT about the new releases, and I think whoever you spoke to may have jumped the gun on this one. The new devices are of course a reality, and are needed to support some of the newer dodge products- no surprise there and is of course true. However, the...
Just a quick update...
Most items relating to putting this all together are now sorted out. We met with one of the machine shops yesterday, and prototyping of the production version will be beginning very soon. As soon as an initial controller is built and all of the hardware is set in stone...
Its a function of cost vs. robustness vs. possible future hassle.
Dumb coils and board mounted IGBT's are cheaper than smart coils or external IGBT's. However, Dumb Coils are also more robust, resistant to shock/damage/temperature, and easier to troubleshoot than Smart Coils or Externals. They...
I have been watching this coming for a while. It will certainly fill a portion of the market very well, as it is very powerful software and interface, as would be expected from Motec. The only thing I still have issue with is that none of the Motec ECU's including this one have internal coil...
Host the photos on Facebook or in the Photo Gallery of this thread [Facebook is easiest]
Then right click on the photo, "copy image location".
Then post that link, and put a [/IMG] AFTER it, and a [IMG] BEFORE it. When you submit, the website will create a photo from that link.
Yes, that is correct. There is a workaround involving Magnets so you can pull up the lifters and hold them away from the cam, but it is rather risky- you drop one and you are doing it anyway.
We offer a specially designed version of MLS head gaskets which allow you to remove the lifters with...
I have already been offered (2) '13 GTS's not too far from here, both at 2K off invoice.
..... and then you have the local dealer here who wants 10K over sticker. LOL. :dunno:
The problem is not so much the locked code, it is the reverse engineering of the code. Breaking the encryption is only a small part of the problem really. The Venom Controller absolutely can be "cracked" in that regard in one way or another. However, that is meaningless if the code is not...
Sorry guys, a plug-in bare bones basic flash system is just never going to be in the cards for this application. If only I could convey exactly what people are asking for- they make it sound like its a simple feat, but the reality is that these companies have millions of dollars tied up in...
Wow-that is a lot of rust for 10 days. Where have you been getting gas? You may want to switch stations. If I was a betting man, you have been getting water-laced fuel for a while, and it just so happened that you pulled up straight water on shut-down the last go-around, it sat for a while, and...
Hey Clint,
I think that many people will be surprised with what just cam be done with a Gen-4 cam... both in the sound and the power department. Its no small cam already. Just some positioning adjustments alone will net some nice changes, and altering the installed centerline can change things...
