High RPM, Engine Shuts Off - Should be easy fix - Tell me what it is!

XLR8, Thanks for the input. Did yours have the following characteristic, not sure if I mentioned this above, but took a while to understand exactly what was going on? Yes I did: The engine will go right past 5000, clear to 6000, if the throttle is NOT on the floor; if I hit it hard down to...

High RPM, Engine Shuts Off - Should be easy fix - Tell me what it is!

OK, took battery out of car and had it checked out - IT IS FINE !! It is only 1 year old, so apparently under hood check is not conclusive as with the "raw" battery. Will this help you in the diagnosis:? The engine will go right past 5000, clear to 6000, if the throttle is NOT on the floor; if...

High RPM, Engine Shuts Off - Should be easy fix - Tell me what it is!

GTS Dean, Thanks, I will put that in my list of possibles. Was there a diagnostic / electrical check that uncovered this problem? The ironic thing about this is that I was at the track the Friday before (Sept. 11), and did not have this problem. Later,

High RPM, Engine Shuts Off - Should be easy fix - Tell me what it is!

Adam, I do suspect cam, or crank sensor, but since the battery is showing not good, I have to address that also. Wires just came, they look really, no REALLY REALLY GREAT. Later,

High RPM, Engine Shuts Off - Should be easy fix - Tell me what it is!

Chuck, Ya, not rev limiter - been there many times. How about a battery that I just had checked , in the car via the front battery tap and a ground, that shows it is NOT taking a charge, and therefore, (my suspicion - I don't know for sure), that when the demand is full throttle, there is not...

High RPM, Engine Shuts Off - Should be easy fix - Tell me what it is!

Yesterday while at the track, after a couple sessions, the car started acting weird. Accelerating hard (throttle on floor), the engine shut off at 5000 +/-RPM, the Tach fell to zero. Engine probably shut off, but since I was running, probably compression started immediately and kept going...

IEATVETS, Ya, I'm not sure, because when I got this, there were no cutouts in the cowl, and the grills were loose, 3 pieces. I think the Autoform is complete (paint or not). I cut the holes/slots in the cowl to fit the grills. Later,

Mad0953, I can tell you that with the engine hot, put your hand over the grill mesh, and the heat coming from the engine compartment is hot. You can get an idea by cracking open your hood, and feel the hot air coming from the engine under the windshield - basically where the vents are. You will...

This is for the poor viper owner...

Adam, I have a friend who just got a Viper, and is on a real short budget, and needs brake pad BADLY, so he can go with me to the track on Friday Sept. 1. I told him he could not get on the track now with his low pads. How soon can you ship them, if you still have them; let me know the...

I thought we told you back on this post that Gen 2 engines DO NOT HAVE A HEAD GASKET ISSUE :bonker: :bonker: http://www4.forum.viperclub.org/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB14&Number=718726&page=3&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1 If you don't want information from...

Should I change my head gaskets???

Your head gaskets should be fine; you have a Gen 2 engine which has the updated gaskets from the factory. 1996 RT's are still Gen 1 engines.

    Sport bar clear plastic strip

ALL, I recognized this problem years ago when I took off/put on, the hard top the first time, that the bolts could and probably would scratch or nick the sport bar. I found a piece of rubber tubing (auto parts store), with an inside diameter the same as the bolt diameter. Cut a piece to a...
