I have vinyl OE in my 96 GTS and mistplaced my driver's side visor.
I cam either find a used vinyl one OR upgrade both to the later model cloth ones.
I have heard the cloth ones are wider (hang down lower when in down position)
BUT I'd like to know if they can fold forward (from down...
I drove The Dragon when I was at VOI7 Nashville. I stopped at The Tail of the Dragon and asked if any Vipers have been through. They said no.
I was crushed.
Anyhow, I have to drive Bad Viper from Carson City NV to PA and while surveying maps found General's Highway north of LA.
I've...
A very biased reply from a notorious street racer from the 70's:
A short throw shifter is cool looking but unless you are very strong, don't expect to powershift the single cone T56. In reality, you pretty much need a crowbar to get the big load on the synchros for a fast shift - if you are a...
Sachs are $58 a set at Autozone
StrongArm are $39 a set shipped over internet (NewEgg even has them)
There may be others?
Is there much difference in quality level? Brands to avoid?
Thanks
Tom
Thanks all for the specific routes to try.
I've worn out all the roads around Carson City, NV and just love those windy hairpins going up the mountain. Usually when you're out of town, you don't see traffic cops. I guess the altitude (loss of HP) and shortness of straights eliminates 99% of...
In NV, the best mountain roads (Virginia City Hill Climb, Rose Mountain, and Kingsbury Grade) usually do not have speed traps. I have driven them over the past 14 years and while not a resident, I have never seen a speed trap. So you can have brief periods of intense fun on those roads. In...
Wow, Billet P/S bracket and pulley? I was not aware of that one.
What do they do? crack? does the pump "fall off" the engine? is the OE bracket steel or alum?
Come to think of it, I don't have the frame recall welding done either.
Oh, and just to use up some more room, I have a spare 335 I'm taking back with me!
I think internet access is the most important.
I had a friend have a wheel fly off his Blazer about 1 hour from home here. He got a ride back home, but it took us about 4 hours on the internet/phone lining up a...
Condums? HaHaHaaaa! (how true)
Have to tell this story:
I'm driving my new 2000 GTS to the dealership and I pull into this gas station to get some pop and this faded silver Honda pulls up behind me.
This 11 out of 10 stunning twenty something, must have been a stripper, girl gets out (yes...
Thanks Steve! You sound like a Great Guy - hope I don't see you(haha) At least not under those circumstances.
When I bot my new 2000 GTS, the first new car I ever bot and the most I had ever spent previous only a car was $7k - I drove it to FL from PA with 90 miles on it, in January. I had...
I'm planning to drive my 96 modded GTS (aka Bad Viper) from Nevada to Pennsylvania and want to plan for the Unforeseen.
To start with, I want to have:
Full Internet Access (smart phone or laptop - don't have one yet!)
Extra space in the event I get a flat rear tire and have to use the donut...
I think it was something like that. The key was finding the stalk "doner."
Or course, replacing the stalk involves the steering column which can be a nightmare due to air bag and anti-theft puzzles.
I seem to recall years ago a Gen 2 cruise control install that replaced the turn signal stalk with another Mopar OE stalk that also had the CC controls in it. I think Bill Pemberton may be been tangentially involved.
Anything like that available or just do the Snake Oyl?
This is somewhat OT, but with a stock single synchro T56, instead of a shorter shifter, I basically need a long crowbar to produce enough force to get past the synchro.
I have the MGW and then drove a stock one and oh what an improvement.
At some point I will be removing the MGW and replacing...
I can clear the whole panel, but 1/2 of it will sanded clear.
OK base one base is problematic - just what I expected. So primer it!
Its funny , this spot repair started small and simple and has balooned to about twice the effort ! (so what else is new!
Thanks
Tom
I'm in the midst of a small spot repair on a base/clear panel. (Hennessy front fascia)
From what I can gather, you do not have to match the repair primer and base layers with the OE layers. The repair simply goes on top of what OE layers you have left after you have completed the damaged...
ToD meet sounds good and glad to see people catching on. I've spent many hours scouring Gazettes looking for the curliest corkscrew roads out there - and I've ended on dirt roads a lot of the time.
So what do you actually do at one of these ToD meets? I know cops are around a lot. A...
viper k,
The car is Wayne Skiles' car he ran at the Silver State. He had a ton of work done to it.
I fixed the carbon fiber hood fit and had the suspension/brakes completely rebuilt. Also new Center Force unobtanium clutch & aluminum flywheel.
I'm currently painting the hood and fascia...
Tail of Dragon....(!)
I HATE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
..uh, was I typing out loud? I was momentarily overcome by a Rage of Jealousy...
Did the Nashville VOI and made a point to drive it.
THERE WERE NO OTHER VIPERS THERE! Are you kidding me? One of the most remarkable windy roads in the world...
Lots of cheap 315's out there. So what is the verdict on the 17x13 rim?
Not to mention $95 fronts.
Like a set of tires for a Viper for $500? I think the thinking is clear here.
Treadwear of 300 caught my eye.
No Kuhmos. No Nittos.
Michelin 25% more money with only 220 treadwear
I thought 17's might be cheaper, but they actually aren't (and much less selection), however, there is a $99 275/40zr17 out there.
I like the red. With black you can't see the wheels at a distance.
Many track cars are painted as "loud" as possible so they are easily identifyable. Of course on the street, the cops will be looking for that "white Viper w/red wheels."
I just saw a gray import with dark red wheels this AM...
Hummm.... That Vintage Gold Plasti Dip might just be the cure for some Yellows! (Yellow Wheels = NO always)
I'm sure they make Black and Red too - red wheels/red stripes?
Jack B,
I was not aware of documented MXX failures. Were these at 80 mph on interstate or at drag strip, road course, or open road race?
I want to make some cross country tours and was intending to use up the MXX's. They all have 5.5 to 7 32nds which really hurts - they aren't used up much...
